Everyone stared at her with intensity, and she looked back at them.

Alfred was speechless, and Judith seemed to be petrified. It was as if the words that came out of Eve's mouth had pierced a sword in her heart, and there she was, bleeding and dying in front of everyone. With a tight, tense posture, the Queen rose from the table and looked at the girl, who, though confused, understood the reactions of some people after the whispers.

And it has been always like this.

She literally almost died once because of it.

It happened to a merchant from Mercia.

When he heard that the deceased son wanted him to know that the cause of his death was not his fault.

The poor boy simply had his mind in a place too dark and saw in that enemy soldier and at the end of his arrow the exit to his torments: the bow was distended with intent to hit the father, but the son, without thinking twice, threw himself to took the fatal arrow.

Since then, the man felt responsible for his death, punishing himself day after day, mulling and absorbing all that immense pain. Evellíne then decided to try to comfort him, thus following the request of the young man. But his answer came in the form of a dagger.

The man was so enraged that he almost cut off Eve's neck. He called her a witch, claiming that his son was a strong and impetuous warrior, and would never commit such acts, for if he were to die, it would bravely be on the battlefield.

''How silly ...'' the girl thought. ''Don't you know... The most ruthless battles happen in our minds, not on a battlefield. '' She even thought of uttering the words, but didn't.

Eve had always found the definition of the word strength very misplaced.

Knowing how to take lives with a sword was easy. The battles of blood always end, but what we carry inside, never ceases, and often only gets worse.

Thank God his brother arrived in time and with composure managed to convince the man to drop the weapon. This was what she most admired in Ethan. Despite being a warrior; certainly, one of the best all England had ever seen; he always chose the dialogue before pulling his sword. And sometimes, luckily worked: the old man knelt on the floor, crying like a child who had just been born. He raised his hands to the heavens, murmuring meaningless things, seemed to be asking forgiveness of his son. Eve and her brother left, giving privacy to the poor old man.

It was always a risk. But in the end, it was worth it.

Judith was now coming towards her, staggering. The young woman got up, and the others at the table, too.

''Is that some kind of joke?'' she exclaimed outraged.

"I would never dare, Your Majesty."

"The name you said... Who told you about him?" she asked curiously.
