"Take a deep breath... Everything's gonna be alright. Just...remember... to breathe".
Judith's whispers trying to calm the Princess' nerves echoed in her mind like a bee hum. She even tried to do what the Queen advised her to do, but her anxiety had taken over every little bit of her body.
The marriage had been postponed, which was understandable, after the arrival of Ragnar's sons, everything was very unpredictable, and it was obvious that Judith wishes the wedding to be official as quickly as possible.
With Alfred's early departure scheduled for the morning of the following day, everything had been prepared at the last minute, leaving everyone completely unaware.
And then the doors of the chapel opened.
Clinging to her father's right arm, she heard the loud sound of the flutes and harps flooding across the hall, and as soon as the music began, all the few guests of the ceremony turned their heads towards the bride, who raised her head, impetuous, focusing only on one thing: to not stumble, despite the trembling legs.
Instead of looking across the hall, she ignored everyone around and quickly made an eye connection with Alfred.
The King's eyes were shining, admiring from afar the mesmerizing beauty of his future Queen, who wore a long white dress completely woven into silk at the bottom and filled with lace. The beautiful black hair held up a small, delicate crown of diamonds, once belonging to Ecbert's grandmother.
That was the first time that Evellíne really felt like royalty, with the crown weighing on her head, walking towards the King, she realized how much power she became, and during that brief epiphany, she asked the Lord for strength and wisdom to know how to deal with so much power.
Alfred and all the guests seemed to be hypnotized, but when the girl looked around, she noticed that Aethelred was grumpy, like he were so bored that even staring at the ground seemed more interesting than seeing the women he desires marrying his brother.
As soon as Eve reached the shrine, the music suddenly ceased.
Her father affectionately led her to the King, who welcomed her with a wide smile.
She melted.
Both of the couple knelt at the request of the priest, who carried with him in one hand a document, and in another hand a tiny can of ink and a bird feather. The first one to sign was Alfred, who at the end of writing his name, smiled, and gave the ink to her.
The priest took a step back and began to read aloud the long document, though Eve's mind wandered through the most random places, and despite the priest's long speech, at the end, she noticed that she didn't hear at least 1% of what he had said, but as she had been invited to countless marriages before, the girl managed to capture the meaning of all that incessant talk.
