Ivory
I don't know what to do. The whole story about Gracie the first place is crazy but now my mom is calling me. Something's going on. I look up at Declan and he nodded his head telling me to answer the call. I close my eyes and open back up and press except and put the phone to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Oh, there's my baby's voice!" I hear my mother's voice on the other end. "You don't know how much I miss you, right now."
My heart softens to her. She might have never shown me love but she's till my mother. She never blamed me for anything. She never called me any of those words like my dad did.
"Mom, what do you want?" I ask her in the nicest way possible."I just wanted to tell you that I did it," her voice is full of self pride and assurance.
"What did you do?"
"I asked him for divorce. He's out of the house not without a fight, the whole place is trashed but he's out. I know you're not wanting to come back but please come talk to me?" She asked but I don't know what to say. I didn't know my mom had the kind of strings. I didn't know that she would stand up to him. Over the last three weeks I've realizing that I don't know anything at all.
"I don't know, mom. Today is not a good day for more drama. I have had a bad day and it's just now getting better," I say messing with the hem of my light purple shirt."I know your life isn't the easiest thing in the world but can you at least hear me out. You can even bring your boyfriend if you like. And yes I know he's your boyfriend the whole town is talking about you guys."
"Are you sure he's gone, that he's not coming back?"
"I'll explain everything once you get here. I just want to see my baby girl."
"Okay, mom. We'll be there in a little while."
"Great! I love you, Ivory," she hasn't said that to me in years and the sound of her voice sounds like she actually means it. There's no way I'm saying it back, she lost that right a long time ago. I will forgive her but I won't say I love her.
"Bye, mom," I say and hang up the phone not waiting for her to respond.
I look down at the phone waiting for her to call back but she doesn't. I take a deep breath in through my nose would like that very slowly.
"I'm guessing we are going to your house? Why?"
"My mom asked my dad for divorce and she wants me to come over there and talk to her. I told her we would."
"We?"
"I need a ride, don't I? And I'm not going in there by myself. I might forgive her but I don't trust her," I say grabbing my bags and heading back upstairs to put them back in the room. I feel Declan take the bags and do it for me.
"Let me do it, please."
"Declan, get that stupid look off your face. I get why you had to do it you were just trying to save me. I can't live without you, and you can't live without me I get why you did it. All I ask is that you just don't do it again," he nods his head. I walk over to touch his face. He doesn't believe me.
"Can you not hear me? I can't live without you. I don't know how you did it but I'm wrapped around your finger and I'm chilling in your palm and I don't want to go out. You're like my safe haven.
So forgive yourself because I have. Just don't let other people's actions get in the way of our relationship because it's just going to be me and you at the end of the day. It's not going to be Grace, or stupid racist people, it's going to be me and you. I'm not going anywhere. Like you said figure it out."
