Cain ran down the street still in his pajamas while he made his way to Rainn's house.
He'd left poor baby Kei there longer than he was supposed to and Rainn would undoubtedly be angry. Especially when he said he'd just forgotten.
Oh well, he didn't care. He'd met someone amazing. Someone who got him. Someone who wouldn't leave like...like Ellie.
That's right, she was still a thing. There was no doubt in his mind that one day she'd return and most likely have a problem with his new relationship.
Oh well, she left and he was happy. Besides, there was nothing he and Hei couldn't and wouldn't face together.
Hei was sitting on the couch with Haise laying down in his lap while they both watched the news coverage of the murders at the warehouse.
"Daddy? You did that?"
"Yup."
"Why?"
"Had to."
"Why?"
"Because they were trying to hurt us."
"You say that about everyone you kill.".
"They sent Cain to our home to kill us."
"Then why are we here with him?"
"He's...okay look, I've always been honest with you right? And supported you right?"
"Yes?"
"Well I need you to do the same for me. Cain and I...well we're kind of together now."
"Like you and Mommy?"
"Exactly like that."
"Are you...are you replacing Mommy?"
"No no, no one can ever replace your mom. But she's gone now and I need to move on. And so do you."
"I do?"
"Yeah, you do. He has a son too, a little baby that could sure use a big brother."
"M-Me?"
"Yup that's right, now how about you come help me in the kitchen. I think we can whip up a nice breakfast."
"Okay!"
Kids, they were so simple and easy to please and always eager to help.
Cain knocked on the front door and smiled when it opened only to have the smile slapped off his face by an enraged Rainn.
"You have got to fucking kidding me, I know yo ass did not just show up here all nonchalant like you didn't just up and leave your baby here and not come back until the next day!!"
"I'm sorry!! But I have an excuse, I met someone."
"You met someone?"
"Yeah."
"Dammit Cain, is this another Ellie situation?"
"No, for starters he's a
guy and doesn't seem like the type to do what Ellie did.""Ellie didn't seem like the type to do what Ellie did at the time either."
"He's like me. A killer. One I was hired to kill but didn't."
"What?"
"Yeah I'd met him before I was hired to kill him and I just...I just couldn't."
