I hit the print button on my computer. I had worked for the past four hours on the new headshots Felicity wanted me to make. Apparently, Shawn had grown up some more and his current headshots looked like a 16-year-old instead of a 19-year-old. So, I have labored on these, and now all I have to do is print them.
I waited for a second, but the 'done printing' icon didn't show up.
Great. I can't even print something without it going wrong.
I sighed, slowly getting up from my chair. I made my way to the elevator, trying to remember which floor the elevator was on. Finally deciding, I clicked on the fourth floor and watched the doors close. I looked out the window, looking down at the city, and dark clouds were starting to fill the sky. I heard a clap of thunder, and it started to sprinkle. But the longer I watched, the harder it poured.
The doors opened with a ding, and I walked out onto the floor. Everyone was trying to finish their work before the day ended, which is what I wanted to do, but there was someone at the copier.
Nash.
I quickly turned to walk away, but he saw me.
"Rebecca!"
Crap.
I turned around with a fake smile.
"Hi, Nash." I slowly inched forward, trying not to think how awkward this was going to be.
"How are you?" He looked genuinely concerned, but I had learned not to believe it.
"Actually, I'm doing really well." I lied. To be honest, I wasn't really sure how I was feeling. I just didn't want him to think he ruined my life.
"That's good to hear." He put his hands in his pockets and looked down at the floor.
"I've got to make some copies..." I nodded at the printer behind him and he nodded.
"Right, sorry." He stepped aside and I hit a few buttons on the printer. It started up and began to print the headshots.
"I'm going to go now." He said before I nodded and he walked away. Once he had gone, I sighed and leaned back onto the printer.
"That was so awkward. I was cringing just listening to you two." I looked up to see Shawn leaning against the doorway. He had an evil smirk on his face, and his arms crossed over his chest.
I rolled my eyes and turned back around to face the printer.
"Yeah, what else do you expect?" He looked confused.
"What? Aren't you two dating?"
I paused, shutting my eyes before taking a deep breath.
"No. We broke up a couple of days ago." I picked up some of the copies and groaned.
"Ugh. They're ruined!" I looked at the pictures. Only half of Shawn's face was on the page, and the other half was on the back, and blurry.
"How is that even possible?" I asked. Shawn shook his head and walked over to where I was standing. He motioned for me to move aside, which I did, and he started to push some buttons. He then hit it, before more copies began to file out. This time, though, they were perfect.
He laughed and picked up a copy. "This was what you are printing?" He held up his face and showed it to me.
I scowled and snatched the picture from his hand. "Yes, it is. Some people actually have to work." I grabbed the fixed copies and began to walk back to the elevator.
"Hey, I work!" He ran into the elevator. I laughed.
"You call standing around in an office building all day working?" He scoffed and looked out the window.
"I don't just stand around." The elevator doors dinged and I walked into my office to pack my stuff up.
"Well, I'm sorry for doubting you." I shoved the pictures into my top drawer and grabbed my phone and purse. I motioned for Shawn to move aside and began to walk down to the lobby, for what seems like the 100th time today.
He laughed a little, following me to the front doors. We both looked outside, where it was now raining harder than ever.
"Man, it's really pouring out there. Don't you have to walk?"
"Yeah." I moaned. This was going to be interesting. I looked in my purse for an umbrella, but couldn't find one.
"Great. I don't even have an umbrella." He looked outside again and scratched his neck.
"You know, I walked here, but I have an umbrella we can share." He looked at me hopefully. I sighed, not seeing any other option.
"Ok, thanks." He pulled an umbrella out of his jacket (which had huge pockets, unlike women's jeans) and let it up. We took a deep breath before heading out into the storm.
