It was your eleventh birthday last week and you had been waiting for your Hogwarts acceptance letter. You knew you were going to be accepted, everyone in your family had gone to Hogwarts. Even though you've been around magic your entire life, the thought of going to Hogwarts was very exciting.

I had just woken up, yawning loudly and sitting up in bed. Letting my eyes adjust to the bright light of morning.
I let my legs hang over the side of the bed for a moment before sliding off, walking out my room and cautiously walking down the marble stairs. I walked into the dining room to find my father sat at the large table, reading the Daily Prophet. My mother sat next to him, drinking a cup of tea and looking through the post. Her face seemed to light up as she saw me walk in.
'Morning, Mother. Anything important in the post this morning?' I asked hoping my letter had come this morning. I sat down near her, trying to look at what she was smirking at.
'Oh no, nothing that special. But this did come for you.' My mother said as she handed a letter to me. The green ink that spelt out my name and address stood out clearly on the yellow parchment.
I turn it over to open it and that's when I saw it. The Hogwarts crest. I was overflowing with joy. I held the letter close to my chest, feeling like I could get up and jump about. But instead I opened it, my large eyes fixed only on the letter, my brain blocking out everything around me as I read.

I couldn't help myself. I stood up and jumped up and down in happiness. I smiled so hard my cheeks began to hurt and my mother giggled at me.
'Good news, is it Y/N?' I could tell she already knew what I was about to say, she just wanted me to tell her myself. My father put the paper down and smiled at me.
'I got accepted into Hogwarts!' I said almost shouting from excitement.
My mother walked up to me, took the letter from me and smiled. 'How about you go and get ready? I'll take you to Diagon Alley today to get you everything you need.' I nod up at her in response.
'Why can't father come?' I asked.
'He needs to take care of some business for a friend's of ours. He wouldn't go if it wasn't so important.' I nod my head in response once more before running back up to my room on the third floor.
My father was a very busy man so I was used to him working so much. So when important things like this happened to me, I've just started to assume he wouldn't come.
I quickly got ready, picking up a bag that has an extension charm on it. Even though extension charms were illegal for private use, my parents worked for the ministry so we are allowed to use them within moderation. I rushed back down stairs when I was ready, meeting my mother by the front door. She held out her arm and I took a hold of it and we apparated to Diagon Alley.
When we got there, she gave me the letter. I opened it and read the second page with the required items for my first year.
