Broken

Chapter XIII

"We've forgotten the paperwork" laughed Klaus Baudelaure in his Dr Faustus voice.

"Paperwork, yes of course!" said Mr Poe who was still oblivious to the fact that me, Violet, Duncan, Klaus and Sunny were there and in grave danger. "Somebody call Hal!" shouted a random nurse in the crowd. "I will, I'll go get him right now" said a Volunteer Fighting Disease happily skipping out of the room.

Count Olaf turned on the main lights, the crowd started murmuring among themselves including Olaf's henchmen and Esmé walked away to talk to Count Olaf and Klaus. As soon as Esmé had left and Olaf's henchmen's backs were turned Duncan sprinted over to me and untied the bandages that kept me in the wheelchair, "What happened to you, one second we were both on the ground and the next I was running after Violet and Count Olaf was behind me" he said. "Esmé stopped me as some sort bait so Klaus would come with her" I answered just as Duncan had finished untieing me.

We ran to Violet's side just as Esmé said "We'll stop this operation right now if you give me the item you stole from the Library of Records last night". "Klaus don't I said it's not-"."Be quiet, orph... weren't you just in a" said Count Olaf realising that Duncan had let me out. "Give it to me" said Esmé ignoring us completely "it's mine, it's mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine, mine!". Then stupidly Klaus gave into peer pressure and gave her the Snicket File despite my warnings, I mean I do understand that he wanted to save Violet but I also knew that even if Esmé got the Sugar Bowl, they wouldn't stop the operation. So as Esmé realised that the Snicket File wasn't the Sugar Bowl and Count Olaf took it from her, we knew that even more trouble was coming.

"Attention, it has come to my attention that this man is an impostor" the crowd gasped "he isn't a doctor at all, He's two children, neither of which have graduated from medical school" exclaimed Count Olaf revealing Sunny in Klaus' coat, "Oh my gosh ,it's those Baudelaires". Mr Poe finally realised that the Baudelaires were there and said "Baudelaires, your not doctors!". "No, they're murderers. They killed Count Olaf" shouted Olaf. "Who?" asked the head Volunteer Fighting Disease,which honestly made me and Duncan chuckle. "He, He's a very handsome actor" said Count Olaf. Then realising his plan was starting to be another fail, Count Olaf grabbed Duncan and I ran after them just as Violet woke up.

That's when I realised why Klaus gave Esmé, the Sugar Bowl, because he would do anything for his siblings, I thought I was so stupid for not understanding that  he would do anything to save Violet even if I told him it wouldn't help. Still, I knew that I could have stayed with the Baudelaires and I would have been safe but Duncan's my brother I had to stay with him.

"Duncan" I screamed running after Count Olaf who shoved us both into the Library of Records, "there's no point running or screaming , orphans, the Baudelaires will be arrested and brought to me anyway, then you will all be in my grasp". We got to the projectors where Count Olaf watched the Snicket File and I hoped that we would find out who survived the fire but once Jacues Snicket said "there may have been a survivor of the fire", Count Olaf went into a rage smashing the projector until it created a little flame, "Don't!" shouted Duncan but alas it was too late as Count Olaf had already started a fire.
