Takes place after Violet and Klaus are pushed off of the Mortmain Mountains

They were gone..
Violet and Klaus were gone, forever.
I was in shock, I was in denial. We turned the corner and lost view of the gift caravan. I would never see them again.

"No" I whispered still looking out of the back window.

"They're okay, they'll find a way out"

"No orphans, they won't"

Then, a few minutes later, as I was crying along with Sunny who was in my arms, Duncan got angry.

Even I was terrified, he was shouting and screaming and crying which made me and Sunny cry even more, and Count Olaf and his troupe laugh even more.

After over an hour of screaming, crying, shouting and laughing filling up the car, Duncan stopped screaming and shouting, I stopped crying and we both realised that Count Olaf had won.

We sat silently with Sunny still whimpering and sitting on my lap.

"For goodness sakes orphans, control that baby or ill give her something to cry about" Count Olaf said.

"It's okay Sunny, we'll protect you" I said looking at her tear stained face.

"They won't get away with what they've done" whispered my brother.

"Kidnapped orphans are never any fun are they?" said Esmé "always talking about justice being served and good winning in the end, blah, blah, blah"

"I completely agree. Can you remember when we had the Lyon children in our clutches for months before we set their house on fire, we even moved them to a remote island, but it turns out their father didn't even die and he rescued them along with Larry and Jacqueline" said Fernald, the hook-handed man "all they would do was cry for help and complain and cry for the loss of their parents. I'm sort-of glad that we gave up on those children and their father when they disappeared"

"You're glad? Glad! We almost had the Lyon Emeralds in our clutches but Lawrence Lyon wouldn't die with his wife and anyway, the Lyon family didn't disappear, they moved into the middle of the hinterlands" said Count Olaf.

"I heard they moved because he quit V.F.D. and he didn't want his children to be a part of it either" said one of the white-faced woman

"Yes, but they still snuck out and finished their training" said the other.

"Who are the Lyons?" whispered Duncan.

"I don't know" I replied

"Oh I'm sure you'll meet them soon enough" said Count Olaf

"What are you talking about?" said Duncan

"Yes darling, what are you talking about?" asked Esmé

"What I mean, my precious, is that once we have done what we came to do at the top of the mountains and at V.F.D headquarters, we won't have anything to do, we already have the Baudelaire Fortune and what's left of the Quagmire Sapphires, so why not get all of the Lyon Emeralds"

"True" said the bald man

"Great plan Boss!" said the white-faced women

"Makes sense to me" said Fernald

"But what about the sugar bowl?" Esme said " My Sugar Bowl!!"

"What do you need at V.F.D headquarters?" I asked before Count Olaf could reply to his crazy girlfriend

"And why would we tell you that" laughed Esme "you'd just try to stop us"

"What are you going to do?" I asked again, more worried than before

"Did you hear something?" Esme said, making it seem like me, Duncan , nor Sunny existed.

"Where are we going boss?" asked the white faced women at the same time

"To Mount Fraught, I already told you this when the baby brat and the twins were asleep"

"Is there an in hotel there?"

"No ,of course not, why would there be? We are going to sleep in tents"

"I'm not putting up any tents" said Esme horrified by the thought of actually doing any work

"Why would I make the woman I love put up tents when we have orphans who can do all the work for us?"

"Excuse me" said Duncan

"We don't know how to put up tents" I said "especially ones the size of the ones at Calagari Carnival "

"Well I guess you'll have to learn then"

They started laughing again and Duncan got angry again,

"Are you not even sad that one of your friends is dead he, she , they didn't deserve to die, nobody does, not your henchman, not Olivia and not.." he said trailing off.

"The Baudelaires?" Count Olaf continued "are you too said to say it" he looked back and smiled at us, " because they are as dead as my ex-henchman and you orphans can't do anything about it"

"Talking about henchmen" said Fernald  who was sitting in the front with Count Olaf and Esme "there are three freaks in the trunk who have no idea what is going on"

"I've already thought of that" said Count Olaf

"Really?" The Bald Man said

"Yes, of course I have, while the orphan twins are putting up the tents..."

"Were not twins" I insisted

"Shut up!" Esme shouted

"Anyway. While the twins are putting up the tents, we can fill in the new recruits"

"Great plan Boss" said all the henchmen all together

The car stopped. "We're here"
