"Where are we?" I look at my surroundings out the SUV's window. We were on an old back road that the trees lined left and right. Everything around us had a hazy look due to the early morning fog everywhere.
"I'm not completely sure but I know we are close to one of the safe houses," Jack stated confidently.
"Good, I'm ready to get out and stretch my legs," Olivia smiles.
"Remember Olivia even if these are supposed to be safe places for us, they can also be dangerous." Trey warns her from the front of the vehicle ,but keeps his eyes focused out his window.
Sabrina was driving now so that Trey could rest. He obviously needed sleep. I could tell by the few glimpses I had caught of his tired eyes.
"It should be right up here." Jack announced.
I looked out the front window. I could see a small log cabin in the distance. Seeing the cabin made me feel safe in a way. Or at least the safest I had felt since this all started.
Sabrina pulled the SUV in front of the small place. I started to unbuckle and get out but Griffin put his hand up signaling me to wait. We all watched the door of the cabin. Nothing happened though. No one moved. Nothing.
I sat wondering what we were waiting on.
"What's going on," I whispered to Griffin.
"We have to see if anybody comes out first."
"Why?"
"Cause we cant just walk in it might not be safe,"  he explained briefly.
Still nobody.
"Ok, we need to check the inside of this cabin out. Looks like someone abandoned it," Trey sighs.
We all get out of the car and go to the trunk. Sabrina pulls the trunk open. Laying in front of us was an assortment of weapons. Mostly guns and knives. Trey, Griffin , and Sabrina each grab guns. Jack and Olivia grab knives. I grab two of the knives. Holding them in both hands.
"Ok let's go," Olivia says reassuringly. We go up to the front door. Trey goes to open it but when he touches the knob I see that it's slightly open already. He holds the gun up in front of him and pushes the door open with his foot.
Trey goes first, Sabrina follows him, then Jack and Griffin , while Olivia and me followed in the very back.
When we walked through the first room ,the kitchen, there was a turned over chair near the table. As well as many scattered books and papers everywhere in the room. It seemed someone had been searching for something.
"What happened here?" I wondered aloud.
"The hunters have been here," Griffin stated in a worried tone of voice.
"Don't worry their gone now," Sabrina sighed as she came around the corner. She must have wondered off while we had been searching the kitchen.
"There's two bedrooms in the house the boys can sleep in one and we can sleep in the other." We all went and grabbed our bags from outside. I placed my bag in our room and made my way to the living room.
Olivia had volunteered to make us breakfast. Since we had already eaten the lunch Lucy had packed yesterday when we were on the road.
We had only packed a few canned goods with us ,but luckily for us everything in the fridge was still good. The hunters must have been here not long ago.
She fixed eggs and bacon on toast for everyone. After we finished everyone went about their own business.
Trey and Jack decided to go train outside. "You should join us. It would give you the chance to try and learn the extent of your abilities," Jack offered. I knew he was right I needed to get some fresh air anyway.
"Yeah, sounds good I'll join."
We went to a clearing behind the house. Jack had a backpack that he sat on the ground in front of us. He unzipped it and took out some paper. He crumpled a piece up and held it out in his hand. There was a pause for a second but then the paper burst into flames. I stepped back at first but realized it wasn't that weird since I can see ghosts.
Plus I trusted Jack and knew he wouldn't purposely hurt me. It was weird I had only been with these people for almost two days and already I trusted these people with my life.
"That's really cool," I marveled. "How about you Trey?"
"Name an animal or person," he scoffed. "How about a dog," I challenged. "Easy! What kind?"
"Hmmm a golden retriever."
He started to transform and before I knew it he was an adorable golden retriever. Then he turned back into his normal self.
"Enough about us, we need to learn more about you." Jack said grabbing a book from his backpack. I looked at the cover of the book. The title read 'Guide to Training The Awoken."
"Ok so this book helps me identify your powers and how we can help you," he explained pushing his glasses up on his nose.
"This says you just need to focus on someone or use a picture of the person you want to contact to summon them."
"Hold on," Trey runs into the cabin. When he came out he handed Jack a picture of him and a little girl. The girl had mesmerizing bright blue eyes, curly brown hair ,and a dark skin tone like Treys.
"She was my best friend when I was a kid. Her name was Lea, she was like us. She got caught by hunters when we were about 13. I never got to say goodbye." I could see the hurt in his eyes.
Jack placed the photo in the palm of my hand.
"Just focus on the picture," he reassured me.
I closed my eyes. When I opened them again the same girl from the picture stood ahead of me.
"Hi, you must be Lea. My names Claire I brought you here for my friend Trey."
"Trey?" The girls face lit up and she looked to my right. "He looks so different from the last time I saw him. He can't see me though can he?"
"No,but maybe there's a way he can," I pondered. I grabbed onto his hand. I waited for any sign that he could see Lea. I looked him in the eyes and they seemed to have a glossy look.
"Lea," Trey croaked. "I've missed you so much. I'm so sorry I never should have left you."
"There's nothing you could have done Trey. It's not your fault that happened to me," Lea comforted.
I knew I couldn't keep her there much longer.
"You should probably say your goodbyes."
"Goodbye Lea," Trey said with a sad tone in his voice ,but I could see a small smile forming.
"Goodbye."
I let go of his hand and the photo in my hand. I fell to my knees needing to rest desperately.
"Are you ok?" Jack knelt beside me.
"Yeah I'm fine. I just have a small headache."
Jack helped me up and put my arm around his neck.
"Thank you so much." Trey hugged me.
I hugged him back with my free arm.
"Your welcome."
I was very tired but I knew I had helped someone ,and that's all I cared about.
