I stand up. I had been laying on that uncomfortable couch for much longer then I had wanted to. Jack had made me lay there. He was afraid I would be pushing myself too much if I trained any longer. He was right though. I would have pushed myself.
I've never liked being hurt. I don't guess many people do ,but it makes me feel like people think I'm weak and can't take care of myself. I guess that's something I should get over though because I am so accident prone.
I still had a fairly bad burn on my shoulder ,but it didn't hurt nearly as bad as the headache I had. Plus Sabrina had healed the burn mostly.
I walked over to the back door. I turn the knob to the heavy wooden door. As soon as I get it open I feel a light breeze hit my face. I step out onto the porch.
Griffin and Jack seemed to be having target practice. Griffin was shooting at some old tin cans tied on one of the low hanging tree branches. I assumed Jack was waiting to shoot after him considering he had a gun in his right hand. Sabrina was sitting on the edge of the porch. I head in her direction.
"Hey," I say not wanting to startle her by just walking up behind her. "Where's Olivia and Trey?" I sit down a few feet from her dangling my feet of the side of the porch.
"They went to gather firewood."
"Oh."
I only now ,up close to her, realized how perfectly straight her jet black hair was and how her eyes were so brown they looked black almost. I hadn't had much of a chance to get to know Sabrina. She didn't talk very much.
I turned my attention back to the guys. Griffin took a shot at the last can in the line. There was a loud bang followed by the sound of the bullet hitting the can.
"Your turn," Griffin motioned to Jack. Jack held his gun up and shot at the first can. He missed it ,but hit three of the five cans on the tree. "Not bad," Griffin praised him.
"Thanks."
They both start making their way to the porch. When Jack sees me he seems to examine me carefully. "Do you feel better?"
"I feel fine."
"That's good. I guess a little rest is all you needed."
"Yeah, we're glad you're better," Griffin added. I looked at them both gratefully. Everybody had been a great help to me these past few days.
*Time Skip*Olivia and Trey brought back plenty of firewood. The sun was starting to set and it was starting to get chilly. Griffin started the fire while the rest of us brought chairs out from inside.
We all got close to the fire and started talking about our plans for the next day. "We'll stay for the night ,and in the morning we should pack up and leave," Sabrina suggested.
"Sounds like a plan to me," Olivia agreed. The fire was slowly fading. "Also we should go inside that's the last of the wood." We all grabbed our chairs and made our way to the cabin.
I put on some semi-comfortable clothes and went to bed but I didn't feel like trying to sleep so I grabbed one of the books from my bag that I packed. I didn't get to pack much ,but I did grab a few of Lucy's favorite books from her bookshelf.
I sat in the floor up against the couch in the living room. The particular book I grabbed was a history book. It was full of major events in world history. I flipped through the book but nothing caught my eye. I loved learning about history but it wasn't really what I wanted to read.
I sighed and put the book back in my bag.
"Here you can look through this," a calm voice whispered. I looked up to find Jack standing there holding a book out. I took the book from him. It was the book he had during training. The one about the Awakened. "There's some really cool stuff in there."
"Thanks."
He sat down next to me against the couch. I opened up to the first page. I start flipping the pages and reading each title aloud. "Telekinesis, levitation, Mind control, Healing, Pyrokinesis, Mediumship, Mind Reading."
The list went on and on. Each explaining what it was.
I flip back to Mediumship. I start to read about it. As I read the more I want to try each thing I can learn. "I can tell if there's any spirits in a room or area?"
"Apparently."
"Can I try?" I look at Jack with puppy dog eyes.
"I don't see why not," He says.
I place my hand on the floorboards in front of me. Closing my eyes I focus on everything surrounding me. When I open them again everything is a cool hazy blue. I then start seeing all the spirits. There were at least a dozen maybe more. Most had wounds from what had killed them. Some didn't have a scratch on them.
They were aimlessly walking around. I hadn't seen any like this before. I assumed they were the ones that hadn't moved on. I hated seeing the sad or unhappy looks on their faces.
Some started to notice me. They asked me questions about if I had seen someone they knew or if I could help them get out. As they got closer some yelled at me. It was one of the scariest and saddest things I had ever seen.
"I...I," I tried to explain but I was to choked up. I pulled my hand off the floor as quickly as I could. They all disappeared. I looked over at Jack and felt a single tear roll down my face. He had confusion written all over his face.
"What's wrong?"
"They were everywhere Jack...and I...I didn't do anything to help them," I cried. I wasn't used to hearing people beg for me to help them and the worst part was I didn't know how. Those spirits were stuck there and they had been there so long they were miserable.
"It's ok Claire. It's ok." He wrapped his arms around me trying to comfort me the best he could. It helped more than he realized though. It made me feel safer then I had in a long time.
After a few minutes I pulled away wiping my tears. "I'm sorry. I'm sure you want to go to sleep."
"I'm fine ,but I'm not sure you are."
"I'll be ok. Go ahead."
We both walked down the hall to our rooms. Before I opened the door I looked back at him.
"Jack?"
"Yes?"
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."
