It was my senior year of highschool, it was fall break. My life was pretty boring if I'm being honest. I was just a normal high school student who made average grades and stayed out of trouble. I never would have thought that my life would become what it has. It all started when I was watching T.V. It was a cold and rainy day and I had decided to stay in. I had been flipping through the channels when I saw that the local news was on. It was showing the marathon that I had heard some people talking about the day before. It was the best thing on at the time so I left it on.
I was starting to get hungry so I got up to get some lunch from the kitchen. When as I got up I saw a runner coming toward the news camera. It was a woman and she looked weirdly familiar. A lot like my Aunt, which wasn't even possible, because she died a year ago. I shrugged it off as a weird coincidence. But then something happened that would change my life. The noise of the race seemed to drown out. It was as if her pale blue eyes were looking right at me. "I need your help ,Claire," she spoke softly. I jumped back falling on the couch."It's Kate!"
I screamed. "Mom! Mom!" I yelled. She ran into the living room. "What is it why are you screaming?" she replied. "Aunt Kate she's on the news." I said trembling. My mom turned to the T.V. screen.
"That's not possible. What are you talking about?" I turned back towards the T.V. screen and saw that the runner who looked like my aunt was still standing there. "She's right there. Can't you see her?" My mother looked at me oddly and said. "Claire there's nothing there."
My mother called me crazy and went to the kitchen to make lunch. I didn't bother with trying to get her to believe me. I told her I wasn't hungry and that I was gonna take a walk down the road. As I walked, I listened closely to the sound of leaves crunching beneath my feet and the cool ,crisp breeze hitting my face. I came upon the cemetery where my Kate was buried, now was the time to make a decision. Do I turn around or should I keep walking? I walked towards the gate that leads into the cemetery. I know what you're thinking 'is she stupid or something?'. It was like something was drawing me towards the cemetery though ,and I just couldn't shake the feeling. I opened the old creaky gate. My heart was racing. I walked straight to Kate's grave. I had always been close to her. I was really messed up when she died.
I sat down and just tried to think about what had happened for a minute. As I sat and thought I longed for Kate to be there with me,to still be alive. I closed my eyes remembering all the memories I had of her. I almost felt as though I could hear whispering ,like the dead were watching my every move and trying to guess what I would do next. But even I didn't know what I was going to do. I finally decided to visit my Aunt Lucy who was my mom and Kate's sister, I knew if anyone were to believe me it would be her. As I left the grave I silently prayed that I could figure out what was going on and how I was suppose to help her.
When I arrived at my aunt's house I opened the door and saw that she was reading a book. She looked up from her book."Hi Claire ,can I help you with something?",she said."I need your help ,Lucy."
I explained everything that had happened from then on out."Oh dear I believe I know what's going on. Your aunt went through the same thing. You can see ghosts Claire."
She said it like it was nothing. I felt my head start to spin. Thoughts were racing through my mind. My head quit spinning for a minute.
"What?!?!" I yelled.
"Calm down." She says.
" Calm down! You just expect me to calm down when you just told me I can see ghosts and stuff! I thought I was going crazy but now you sound crazy too!"
"I know it seems crazy Claire but I swear I'm not lying to you." She stated, a calming tone in her voice.
"I just don't understand. I mean nothing ever happens to me. And now this!"
" I understand your scared and I promise I'll help you through this just like I helped Kate."
"Kate? She was like this too?"
"Yes but it's late and you should head home. I'll explain more tomorrow." She sent me on my way home. But as I walked away from the house she stopped me "Claire just promise me you'll be safe." I simply shook my head and replied "I promise."
