Everything was pitch black dark. I couldn't breathe it was as if someone was choking me but I could not see anyone and couldn't feel hands around my throat. Yet I was choking. I thought maybe I was drowning but I couldn't feel any water around me and I can swim.
I felt the life draining from my body yet I felt so alive at the same time. And then everything stopped I assumed I was dead now. I could see a faint light in the distance. "Great! I am dead," I sighed.
I started walking towards the light figuring it was the only way out of the endless abyss surrounding me. All of a sudden a hand wrapped around my arm and pulled me back forcefully. I turned to see who it was and saw the face of a woman I figured I would see again. My deceased aunt ,Kate.
Her brown hair perfectly in place and her beautiful blue glossed over eyes staring right at me. My first instinct was to hug her but I didn't even know if I could. Then all of a sudden she pulled me into the biggest hug. Something I thought I would never be able to do again. She pulled away from the hug and smiled. I had really missed her warm smiles.
"Claire, I don't have long. I wanted to talk to you about your abilities. I sensed you had them long ago but I didn't want to ruin your childhood with the burden that you might have to go into hiding when you got older. I want to give you some advice. You must know that you can't always summon a spirit and sometimes they summon you ,even in the oddest of times. Don't over do yourself. If you use your powers too much it could cost you big," She said in a hurried tone of voice.
"I...I...,"  I couldn't seem to get any words to come out of my mouth.
"Hush, I know you are confused but this is the only way I can talk to you right now. I miss you I really do but this is not the time for happy reunions. I sense you are in danger. I do not know what it is but something is gonna happen."
"Thanks, for the advice ,but I just want to know where exactly am I?"
"This is the middle ground between your world and the afterlife," she explained briefly.
"I am still not able to completely cross over between the two sometimes I get stuck in your world. It's the reason I first asked for your help. Something is tying me to this world. Something is trapping me there."
"How am I supposed to help though?"
"I don't know. What I do know is you will find a way."
She gave me reassuring smile and nodded.
Then she started to fade and completely disappeared. "Kate?" I twisted around trying to find her but she was gone. I was once again alone in the abyss.
I took a few steps forward when I started to hear something breathing lowly. As I steeped again I felt something grab ahold of my ankles and yank me onto my back hitting my head on the solid ground.
"Aaahhhh," I yelped. It began to drag me around. I kicked as it dragged me ,but when I looked to see what it was there was nothing there. Then out of no where it let me go.

                        *End of Dream*

I shot up in panic as I awoke. Only to find that yet again something had ahold of me. This time they were grabbing me by my shoulders. I screamed closing my eyes right figuring yet again something was trying to kill me.
"It's ok! It's ok! It's just me," A deep familiar voice calmed me. I opened my eyes again to see Griffin softening his grip on me as I calmed down.
"What are you doing in here?"
"I heard you yell and thought something was wrong. I guess you were just having a nightmare," he explained.
"Oh, well thank you."
"Hey, I told you I'll always protect you."
He hugged me carefully and walked out the door. I gasped as he closed the door throwing off my blanket. My ankles had been burning ever since I had woken up. What I saw scared me. There were huge claw like markings all over them.
They hurt and burned so badly. It felt like someone had set fire to them. I wanted to cry but I knew I had to doctor them somehow and I needed someone to help and talk to me about what happened.
I opened the door to my room and peaked out. Making sure that no one was around. I walked down to the fourth door from my room. This house really is huge. I turned the knob carefully and slowly opened the door to make sure it didn't cream or slam shut. I walked over to the bed.
"Jack," I whispered. "I need your help get up." I shook and pushed him until he finally got up. Obviously he is a heavy sleeper.
"Claire, what's wrong," he spoke groggily his eyebrows furrowing together. "I need to talk to you about something and I don't want you to tell the others, promise?" I held at my pinky. He wrapped his pinky around mine.
"I promise," he swore truthfully. I explained to him everything in my dream. "I've heard about this place from your dream. They call it the Void ,spirits and sometimes even demons can get sent there or trapped."
       "How did you know that?"
        "I read about it."
"Oh, well maybe you've read something about how this can happen," I queried. I pulled up the bottoms of my pajama pants to show him the still burning cuts.
"That's demon claw marks Claire how did a demon get a hold of you?"
"It must have been in the Void. I had them when I woke up."
"The Void, but I've never heard of a demon being able to grab someone in the Void," he furrowed his brows again. "We should treat these places for now we'll worry about that later."
We got up off the bed and walked downstairs to the kitchen. Jack grabbed some soap and a rag. He walked to the sink and turned the faucet on. Wetting the rag and in water and soap.
He rung out the rag and told me to sit up on the counter. He pressed the rag on my ankles gently. I hissed in pain from even that little bit of pressure.
          "I'm sorry," he apologized.
"It's fine." He gently washed my wounds and went to look for something to wrap around them. He finally came back with some medical wrap. "I had to look through every cabinet but I found some," he smiled. I chuckled softly. He started to wrap my cuts.
"My hero," I smiled and laughed quietly. He laughed at my remark and finished. "Yeah, right a nerd like me."
"Hey dorks like you can be hero's too," I laughed and pushed his glasses up with one finger. He smiled but it didn't last forever. It was eventually replaced with the same sadness in his eyes that I saw in all of my new friends.
Our harsh reality had already taken a huge toll on them. It hurt me to see anybody like that. Especially my friends.
