"So get it over with and tell me."
~
"So where's your father?" I ask sweetly
I hear shouts coming from behind her
"Gabbie?!"
"GABBIE!" Pedro runs up behind her but just goes right through her
"Oh I don't know, he's been missing for a while." She looks down
"Well anyway, we need to go into the crowd to find a spot." She motions me to follow her
We walk past a huge wall of windows on the way there and she spoke up
"Oh look it's raining outside, bummer."
I stop mid-step and freeze. It's like someone has taken a hold of my body and just held it still until my whole body went numb. Memories of the horrible day flashed before my eyes.
"MOM!"
"HELP!!" I fall under the dirty water
Rain is pouring on my face as water fills my mouth.
"Riley? Riley?" Gabbie waves her hand in front of my face
"What? Oh sorry I just remembered something."
We start to walk back into the crowd and make our way to the VIP section. After the show, Gabbie and I went into the meet and greet room and sat by the window until it was our turn in line. I stared out the window where the streets started to flood will the rain that kept pouring down. My eyes land on a lamp post that was already soaked with water...
"Mom!!"
"Hurry Riley! We need to get into the arena!" I run after my mom pushing through the flooded streets. My clothes are soaked and dirty, and I was very scared because I have never experienced anything like this in New Orleans. But as we approach the arena where we could take shelter, my shirt gets stuck on a stop sign that is floating down the street.
"MOMMY! MOMMY!" I scream
As I float down the street, people coming running after me, until finally, I was saved and brought into the arena where hundreds of people who's homes had been extremely damaged where staying.
"They're calling the storm Hurricane Katrina." One old man said
"This is the worst storm I have ever seen!" A woman cried
"New Orleans will never be the same, we might have to move becasue of how distoryed our house is." Another woman said to her husband
Many days after the storm, when the water has disappeared, me and my mom were sitting in a car heading to L.A. where my new home would be. Our house was destroyed in the hurricane and now, I have to move to a whole different state!
"Hey Riley, we're moving up." I get up from the ledge and move up.
"So what's going on? Are you ok?" She looks at me with concern
"I really don't want to talk about it." I say sharply
"Look, running away from your problems wont solve them so get it over with and tell me."
