A/N Warning: there are Infinity War Spoilers Ahead!!
The next morning, Tony had came to pick up Peter. He got everything approved, and Peter was now his legal son. He just wish the circumstances were better. "Did you get much sleep last night." Tony asked Peter.
"No. Each time I close my eyes, I see her die. It's my fault she's dead in the first place."
"It's not your fault."
"It is! The night of the fire, Aunt May was going to go get eggs from the store, and I told her that I'd go. She tried to protest, but I just needed the air. I hadn't been doing too well, and just jumped at everything and anything to get me out of my thoughts and memories. I made her stay at the apartment for such a selfish reason and now she's dead. It should have been me."
"What memories?" Tony asked hoping, praying to God that Peter wasn't being haunted by Thanos.
"Me dying. I just can't get it out of my head. The feeling of knowing what was happening, and what's even worse is all those other people who Thanos killed I felt them die too. It was the worst pain I ever felt, and it sickens me just thinking about it."
"Peter, why didn't you just talk to me?"
"Because I didn't want you to see me as some week boy."
"I would never see you that way, and as for May's death. It's not your fault. There is no way you could've know about it." When there was no response, Tony turned to see Peter sleeping. He must've been so tired, and Tony wondered how long it had been since he even had a goodnights sleep. Tony just shook his head and smiled at the sleeping boy. He turned the radio on but kept it at a quiet volume.
When they arrived at the new Avengers Facility. Tony carried Peter bridal style to the room he had offered him 3 years ago. He went to the common room to find Vision sitting on the couch. "Okay listen up Vision." Tony said getting Vision's attention. "I adopted Spiderman today, and he's staying in the room beside yours. Please don't go through his walls."
"Yes sir." Vision replied.
"Where is everyone else?"
"They're down in your lab working on something."
Tony went to his lab, and sure enough everyone else was there. Everyone else being Wanda, Bruce, Rhodey, Bucky, and Sam Wilson. Doctor Strange was there also. "Strange, what are you doing here?" Tony asked.
"They asked me here to help them with a small project." Doctor Strange answered.
"What project?" Tony asked.
"An object to protect earth from anymore aliens. It would send radio waves to the Stark Enterprises satellite, and form a force field around the earth. But we're trying to build it where Thor would be able to come to earth from Asgard." Bruce answered. Tony was about to reply back when they heard someone screaming very loud.
"Please don't leave me! Please I can't lose you!" It was Peter. He must've been having a nightmare. Tony panicked and quickly made his way up to Peter's room. The others loosely following him, all staring at each other in confusion. Tony got to Peter's room, and saw that both Peter and the bedsheets were soaked in sweat. Peter was pale, and he had his fists clenched so hard that his finger nails were digging into his skin. Tony shook Peter by the shoulder, asking him to wake up. Peter sat up swiftly, screaming such a pained, scared scream that pained Tony's heart. Tony acted quickly, and held Peter in his arms while speaking to him softy, "It's okay. It's okay. It was just a nightmare." He was running his fingers through Peter's curls while Peter was crying. After a couple more minutes, Peter finally calmed down, and he asked Tony if he could just be alone for a while. Tony hesitantly respected his wishes and left the room. The others probably had questions anyways.
"Who is that?" Rhodey asked the first question for all of them.
"Peter Parker, but y'all know him as Spiderman."
"What's he doing here?" Wanda asked.
"His aunt died yesterday, and he called me for help, so I adopted him."
"Wait! You're a father now?" Bruce asked.
"Legally yes according to the judge who signed the adoption certificate." They were interrupted as Doctor Strange lifted up in the air, his head shaking violently. "This is what he did when he went through all the futures of defeating Thanos." Tony said. Doctor Strange snapped out of it as fast as he had snapped into it. He dropped to the floor, and looked up to Tony.
"I just went through Peter's past. Did you know that he lost both his parents when he was five, and lost his uncle when he was 14, and then now lost his Aunt at 16?" Doctor Strange asked.
"Yes." Tony answered.
"It's more than that though. He witnessed a lot in the war with Thanos, and even lost his own life, and as he told you he felt not only his death, but everyone else's. Not to mention he had a building fall on him. Point is, are you sure you know what you're doing adopting him?"
"Yes I do."
