The eve of Christmas Eve. That was what it was today. It was about three o'clock in the afternoon and the sun was shining. There was a very thick layer of snow on the ground as well, at least six inches.

I am outside, shoveling the snow on my small porch with an old, rusty shovel Opa left me. Ashton constantly try's to insist on helping me in someway around the house. but if he got out of the cellar someone might see him and I honestly don't need his help.

Speaking of Ashton, we have been trying to find away to send him home or his B.A.S.E.. But we cannot think of anything!

We can only wait until the war is over or if his side attacks Frankfurt and he can just leave with them then. But both should take a considerable amount of time.

When I am done shoveling the snow, I open the door to my home, stomp the snow off my shoes and go inside to make myself something warm to drink. I suddenly hear two taps on the floor and I tap twice back. Then leaning down, I open the cellar door and jump down. Once I am in, Ashton closes the trapdoor and turns and smiles at me.

"Hi!" He says in a chirpy tone.

"It's been awhile," I joke, "like half an hour?".

He laughs, "It gets boring down here."

"I brought you books!" I say pointing to the stack near us on the floor.

"I'm sure they are interesting and all but I don't read German." He says sarcastically.

"Now that shouldn't get in your way." I put my hands on my hips, "There are pictures!"

"Only five." he pouts.

"What?" I say grabbing a book and flipping through it.

"I counted." Ashton says.

"Well then..." I smile, putting the book down. I've been smiling a lot more recently. I honestly believe it has something to do with Ashton.I think I just needed a friend and here he is.

"Ashton, do you like my cooking?" I ask, slightly randomly.

"Yes, it's different then what I'm used to, but good." he says quickly, swaying back and forth on his toes.

"Do you want a Christmas Eves eves dinner?"

"Yes...." he says hesitantly, it sure what I'm leading up to.

"Then you better leave me be so I can make a delicious one." I say, sarcastically poking his chest. "Now, give me a hand." I say trying to open the trap door. Ashton pushes it open with ease, since he is so tall, and gives me a lift. Once I am on top, I close the trap door and pull the rug over it.

It may seem really early to start dinner, but since the night is over here beginning at five o'clock, technically we eat dinner around five. The latest, six. And we retire at night by ten o'clock.

I begin to take out the ingredients for the dinner.

"And then he said 'you know you're old when the candles cost more then the cake'!" Ashton says, laughing hard. I laugh along with him. He was talking about and American comedian who came to visit and entertain his company in France. His name was Bob Hope.

I take a bite out of the small portion of my potatoes I have as he goes on. He barely touched his food because he just continues talking. I think he's lonely. I honestly try to be with him as much as I can, but I have work and I must be around talking to people or they will get suspicious.
