betty

I tap my foot anxiously in wait as I sit on my bathtub. Tears stream down my face, please, God, no. I lean my head up, squeezing my eyes tightly as I silently cry in fear. Only a few seconds left. This would change everything, perhaps make me loose everyone I cared about.

I take a few deep breaths, knowing that my fate was now literally in my hands, all I had to do was look down. C'mon Betty, you can do this. And I do. There it was...

I'm pregnant.

I get out of the shower to an empty trailer. My dad was out of town.

I throw my dirty clothes into the hamper and pull on a fresh pair of boxers, sweatpants and a t-shirt. It was already 5 p.m, I came home from school almost 3 hours ago. Today was an alright day, except for the fact that Betty was sick, she has the stomach flu I guess.

I start cooking up some chicken noodle soup to take to Betty, I hated seeing her so weak. I think she vomited 2 times at school today, so something light like soup should help.

After the soup is done, I get into my dad's truck -he took his motorcycle- and drive down to Betty and Archie's street, pulling into Betty's driveway which was empty. Her parents must be at the Register.

I walk up the steps and knock on the door before ringing the door bell, hopefully it's okay I came here without notice. I hear the faint sound of footsteps coming down the steps and before I know it, the door opens to my girlfriend.

"Hey, Betts. Thought I'd bring you soup since you're not feeling well." I smile.

She looks like she was gonna be sick right then and there.

"H-h-ey Ju-ug, I-uh thank you." she was so jittery, so fragile. Something else was wrong. She takes the soup from my hands and moves to the side, letting me in and closing the door behind me.

"Are you alright?" I ask.

She smiles weakly at me, her eyes gleaming, "Yeah, I-I'm fine. I am." It was almost as if she was telling herself that.

We walk to the kitchen, Betty walking to the cupboard to take out a bowl. I stop her.

"No, let me, you go sit on the couch, get comfy." I sympathize.

Again, she smiles weakly, listening and walking over to the connected living room. She cuddles up under a throw blanket in a corner of the couch, leaning her head on the back and staring into space.

I put some of the soup in a bowl and grab a spoon, bringing it to her. I take a seat by her and hand her the bowl.

"Aw Betts, I'm so sorry. I didn't even know there was a flu going around." I say, my face instinctively scrunching up as I look at her fatigue.

She just shrugs as she takes a sip of her soup.

I reach over to touch her forehead, expecting it to be boiling hot, but if was perfectly fine. "You aren't hot. You should go to the doctor-"

"No!" she says abruptly, her eyes wide. "No need for a doctor, I'm fine." she says, the frail smile reappearing as it has all day. She bends over and places the soup on the coffee table nearby.

I'm taken aback by her sudden outburst. I know Betty, and I can sense something was wrong.

I open my mouth to speak, but she says something first.
