jughead

She's been acting as if nothing happened. We pass each other in the halls and she glimpses at me for a mere second with no emotion, not even a smile. She really meant it when she said we would never mention what happened in the trail 3 days ago. That included going right back to ignoring my presence, and now it hurt even more, having had a taste of the girl I've been wanting for years only for it to be taken away. But Jughead Jones doesn't give up that easy. Luckily, Betty and I were in the same second period math class, which was the class I was headed to now.

I get to class just a second before the bell so I could see where Betty was sitting. There she was, smiling and laughing in the third row talking to someone I'd never seen. On the opposite side to her sat Dilton Doiley. I come to his desk and click my tongue, signalling for him to move with my head. He gets up, moving to an empty seat towards the back. Betty and her friend notice and her friend blushes before getting up and walking to the back as well, Betty whispering a yell at her to stay, but to no avail. I chuckle before Betty gives up on her friend and turns towards me, smiles weakly and moves her attention to the front of the class.

Lucky for me, the teacher is quick to tell us that today was a work period, and we had to work in pairs on a worksheet she was handing out.

"Work with the person next to you, come to me when you're done and I'll give you more if needed."

"Ah, well isn't it your lucky day, Cooper." I smirk at her, leaning back into the chair with my arms behind my head.

She inhales deeply before bringing her chair to my desk. She sits tightly by me on the small desk, her strawberry scent in my proximity.

"Okay, well for the first question it's kinda obvious that we have to start by factoring out 2x-"

I cut her off, leaning closer to her and saying in a low whisper "Are you really gonna act like nothing happened?"

She turns her head to mine, "Yes. I told you that is exactly what would happen, why are you surprised?"

She looks back at the worksheet, scribbling away.

I take my pencil tracing up her arm slowly, "Well, I thought that might've changed."

She flicks the pencil off her arm, her cheeks flourishing a dark shade of pink, "What gave you that idea?"

"Hmm, probably has something to do with the way your breath is catching right now."

She freezes as she looks at me.

"Or how..." I put my hand under the desk and on her thigh, "how you fall apart under my touch ."

She shifts in her seat, blinking harshly as she looks back at the desk, pushing my hand off her leg.

"Stop." she creaks.

I tuck a baby hair behind her ear, "Is that actually what you want?"

"Help me finish the worksheet, asshole."

She chuckles after that, giving me hope that she actually did care about me. But she was not letting her guard down.

We work away at the worksheet, now sitting in silence. We end up finishing 2 more before the bell finally rings. She quickly grabs her stuff, tucking her chair back into her desk and walking out of the room. I chase behind her.
