Carmen's POV

Caspar was leaning against the wall outside my door with his hands in his pockets, as soon as I walked out the room he stood up and put his arm out for me take.
"So, you seem to know a lot about me, but I feel as if I don't know a lot about you." I looked at him expectantly.
"What exactly do you want to know?"
"Can you tell me more about what happened to you parents and the last king...? Every time it was ever brought up with Damon he would go into a rage," at the mention of his parents Caspar's eyes flashed red, "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up."
"No. You have every right to know. I can't help my reaction sometimes, it's a difficult thing to talk about." He closed his eyes and shook his head, when he opened them his eyes were back to normal.
"I can't even begin to imagine how it must have felt, we can talk about something else if you like?"
"It's fine, we will talk about this," I nodded at him encouragingly, "like I have said before, it wasn't until I began to show human qualities that Damon's father, the king, realised I was not his. The king was a true demon, the kind that you read about in stories. He loved causing mayhem and destruction to a point where his face was always twisted in demonic form, most of us choose to keep our normal faces, but not him. He revelled in being a demon. My mother was different. She was kind, she never wanted the life of a demon and would escape to above whenever she could. There she fell in love with a human and the affair began. I don't know how long it lasted for, she was dead before I could ask her. But she fell pregnant with me. It was when he realised that I was not his that he flew into one of the darkest rages possible." Caspar stopped talking and I saw a pink tear fall from his eye. I stopped walking and just hugged him. He hugged me back for a second before pulling back and wiping away his tear. He turned and sat against the tunnel wall and I sat next to him, silently waiting for him to continue the story. "There is something you should know about demons, there are those who are classed as the worst of them, like Damon's father, they live to destroy and hurt others in any way they can. He went to one them, the worst of them all, she went by Lilith at the time. He told her what my mother had done and asked her for something to be done about it. I don't know if he knew that Lilith would kill her, but when she did the king did nothing to stop it. He just watched her die."

"Then what happened?" He took a deep breath before continuing.

"He did not realise that Lilith had been waiting for a moment like this, that she wanted power, she wanted to be queen of below. In the king's distraction, she took her chance and murdered him. She underestimated the combined fury of me and my siblings and we took her down when we saw what she had done. She was banished to the human world, never able to return. Her powers and her being constantly weakened by the human world. For a demon like her it was a fate worse than death."

"Is that why Damon refuses to talk about it, he lost both his parents due to his father's rage?"
"Maybe, I don't think he was ready to become king and when they were both killed it was him who found them. The next day he was crowned, he barely had time to mourn." I didn't know what to say, I had assumed that Damon's mother had died but I had never in a million years thought it would have been in such a brutal and awful way. Though his father did not kill her himself, he may as well have. In that moment I wanted to run to Damon and hold him, but I knew I couldn't. This changed nothing.

Caspar stood and put out his hand to help me up, "come on then, enough about me. Let's find you some answers."
I took his hand and stood up. We continued down the corridor in a comfortable silence. We seemed to be walking forever, this was the furthest I had been, but the corridor never seemed to end. We had walked past so many doors and had taken so many turns. I knew I would never be able to find my way back on my own.

"So why send Lilith above? Why not just kill her? Doesn't sending her above mean she will hurt a lot of humans." I was curious, if she was so big and bad then weren't they subjecting humans to a lot more torment.
"Before she was banished, she was stripped of any powers that made her special, essentially turning her back into a lesser demon. Being above also would have weakened her to a point where she is basically human. But she will constantly feel torment as if something is pulling the strength from her. That's what happens to demons who stay above to long, a few hours won't do anything, but she has been above for a very long time. She can't hurt anyone anymore."
I nodded trying to understand. There had been a lot I had to take in lately and just accept, Lilith wasn't something I had to worry about. Right now, I needed to keep focused on what was happening to me and what I was going to become.
Finally, Caspar stopped in front of a large wooden door. He took a very large, very old, looking key out of his pocket before placing his hand just about the handle, the space he touched glowed red before there was a loud click of the lock. Opening the door, he stepped back to let me go in first.
The room reminded me of the library that Damon had set up for me, only this was larger. There were also what looked like filing cabinets filling the entire length of one wall and reaching the ceiling. Some of the books in here looked even older than the ones in my library.
Cole and Tom were already sat at one of the tables each with a pile of folders in front of them. They jumped up as soon as I walked in and came over to me. I still couldn't look Cole in the eye, but when Tom rushed over to me and hugged me I couldn't help but laugh and hug him back. After a second, he seemed to realise what he was doing a stepped away blushing. This just made me laugh more.
"Are you feeling better Carmen?" He was still blushing, and it was so sweet.
"I am, thank you. If I had realised what Damon had done I would have tried to of done something about it. I had no idea you both had been sent away." He nodded and then looked at Cole who had not said a word or had tried to hug me, I was hoping that meant he was doing what I had asked and was giving me some space.
"I'm glad you are feeling better." He said this while staring at the ground. I decided to try and move past the awkwardness.
"Okay, so catch me up. What have you guys looked at so far?" Cole looked up and for the first time since his fight, we made eye contact. His eyes were filled with sadness and longing. I could almost feel my heart break.
"We only got her a little while ago, we have started by looking through the files marked Nephilim but so far haven't find anything referring to children of fallen angels." I nodded.
"We best continue looking then, does anyone have a note book and pen?"

After getting all the supplies I needed and my own pile of folders we looked for hours. Anything that was even slightly relevant was passed to me and I made notes. So far all we had found were folders that were slightly relevant, nothing of substance. Turns out children of fallen angels really are rare. But we kept looking. I wasn't even sure anymore what the time was, and no one seemed to complain. Caspar vanished once and came back with sandwiches and coffee, but otherwise we had all been working.
There had been a few awkward moments between me and Cole, moments when he had passed me a folder and our hands would touch, where the eye contact would almost be unbearable. But I tried to just ignore it for now and continue to work. I would talk to him later, I knew I had to, but for right now, this was more important.
Hours had passed, and I felt my eyes starting to close, we had been through countless files and we all needed to just go to sleep and start again tomorrow.
"I think we should call it a day and start again tomorrow." Everyone looked tired and quickly agreed with me. Leaving everything as it was we all left the room. When we got outside I realised I had no idea how to get back to my room. "Caspar, do you think you could walk me back?"
"Sorry, I have to go and catch Amber up on what's going on. But I am sure Cole wouldn't mind walking you back, wouldn't want you to get lost. Tom would you mind helping me with Amber?" He had a mischievous look in his eyes and I knew exactly what he was up to and threw him a dirty look. Tom was holding back a smile, but not well.
"Yeah of course I will." With that they both left in the opposite direction that we had come. Cole hadn't said a word the entire time. He hadn't looked at me either, so I just started walking hoping I was going in the right direction. Cole fell in step beside me, still not speaking.

"Thank you for helping me today, hopefully tomorrow we will have more luck." I kept my eyes forward.
"No problem." He said it so quietly I wasn't even sure he had even said it. We walked awkwardly for most of the way, I followed Cole's lead when we had to go down random corridors, glad he knew the way.
"Thank you for saving my life...I don't think I actually said thank you." It was the most words he had said to me all day and I almost sighed in relief.
"It's no problem, I wish I knew how I actually did that." I laughed slightly, I still couldn't get over the fact that somehow, I had healed him. I was hoping something would come up about that to in our research.
"I'm sure we will find something on it." It was like he knew what I was thinking.
"I hope so." I was starting to recognise the doors we walked by and knew we were close. I was trying to build up the courage to say to him what I really wanted, to ask him if he had wanted to use to make himself human. But I didn't even know where to begin. I saw my door coming up, but I just didn't think I could do it.
"Will you be fine from here?" Cole had stopped walking and was still looking anywhere but at me.
"Oh, um, yeah sure." No probably wasn't the right time to confront him. I began walking away and headed to my door. Just before I was about to go in I was stopped.
"Carmen, please wait," Cole was by my side again and I turned around leaning against my door, "I...I'm so sorry." Pink tears started falling down his cheeks and he hung his head. I couldn't help it, I instantly moved to him and wrapped my arms around his waist. He instantly put his face in my hair and began sobbing. How could I not of trusted him? I knew how deeply he cared about me, he wouldn't try to hurt me. Not now anyway. When his sobbing had slowed down I pulled back from him slightly.
"Are you okay?" his eyes still shone with tears, he pushed my hair away from my face and placed his hand on my cheek. I couldn't help but lean into it.
"I would have never hurt you, please believe that." I never looked away from his eyes as he spoke, and he appeared honest.
"I want to believe you, but with everything happening and all this new information I just need people to be honest with me..." he nodded and pulled me into his arms.
"I promise I will tell you the truth from now on. Damon can't stop me from doing so now." At the mention of his name I felt the hurt he had caused me again. I nodded and turned to go into my room.
"Thank you, I will see you tomorrow."
"Goodnight Carmen." I smiled at him and walked inside. Once inside the room I felt the tears fall and fell asleep still crying but to exhausted to stay awake.
