Carmen's POV

I woke up on my birthday and already knew everything was different. My senses felt fully alive. I could feel every fibre from the sheets beneath my fingertips, hear every slight movement as I ran my hand along the sheet and the footsteps of whoever was approaching the door. Opening my eyes, I shut them instantly. It was like my room was filled with light; I could see every dust particle floating around me. I blinked hard hoping, that like before, it would fade. Only this time it didn't. The knock on the door made my ears ring and I threw my hands over them.
Damon slowly opened the door carrying a tray with breakfast and a white rose and a small box on it. As soon as he saw me he quickly put down the tray and ran over.
"What's happened? What's the matter?" Even with my hands covering my ears he may as well have been shouting right next to me.
"Everything...I can hear everything...the lights are so bright." Even though I whispered it did not feel like it. When he spoke, he kept his voice a lot softer.
"Okay, this happened to me. Close your eyes for me and just breath deep slow breaths. Concentrate on that breathing and nothing else." I did as he said as slowly my senses dulled, they were still stronger than ever before, but manageable. Slowly opening my eyes, I looked straight at Damon. His features had become more prominent, his eyes a deeper red and black.
"Happy birthday my angel." I sit up realising that I am starving. He places the tray on my lap and the gets a proper look at my face.
"I know the bruises are gone, must be my birthday present." He nods like he understands.
"Must be angelic or demon powers, possibly a mix, we both can heal pretty fast depending on the wound."
"That makes sense. This looks delicious by the way." On the tray is a stack of pancakes with plenty of bacon and syrup. There is also a large cup of coffee and a small box wrapped in silver paper. I go to open to present, but Damon takes it before I can.
"Food first, present later." I Just laugh and tuck into my food. In that time Damon vanishes and comes back with his own cup of coffee before sitting beside me on the bed.
"Right, finished. I can have my present now." Laughing he moves the tray away, but not before I move my rose to the beside table. He hands the present back to me and I carefully rip into it. Inside is another little box, nestled on white silk are a beautiful pair of earrings. They are like silver raindrops and the gems sparkle a million different colours in the light.
"These are very rare stones that never stop changing colour, they are also supposed to keep you calm and grounded. I thought they would suite you." I smile and kiss his cheek.
"They are perfect." I put them in straight away.
"I also have another present for you but first you have to get dressed. I brought some of your stuff over, so you don't have to wear my clothes." I turn to get up, but Damon grabs my hand and pulls me back and against him.
"You okay?" I ask and he puts his forehead against mine.
"Have you forgiven me?" I sigh.
"What do you mean?"
"Have you forgiven for what I have done and the way I treated you. I am stupid and stubborn and selfish and so so sorry." I put my hand against his cheek and think about all we have been through in such a short time. I think about what he has done for me and his love for me. But I also think about all that has happened to me since being brought down here. It wasn't my choice to come and because of him I was taken from my dad, but also because of him I knew that my dad never really had a choice but to leave. There are so many conflicting issues.
"I forgive you, life can be to short. I know that you love me, and I know you have done what you have because of that. Though you really should have taken me to coffee or something before dragging me down to hell, I kind of get why you did." He lets out a shaky breath and kisses me. The kiss is desperate and passionate and full of love. I kiss him back and lose myself to it pressed fully against him. A knock of the door has us moving apart unwillingly trying to get our breath back.
"This isn't over." He quickly kisses me again and walks over to the door, I jump out of bed and try to make my hair more presentable.
"HAPPY BIRTHDAY!" The flurry that is Amber bursts into the room. She runs over and hugs me.
"Thank you!" She vanishes out the room before I can get another word out.
"Was that it?" Damon laughs and walks back over to me.
"I hope so." He started kissing me again with one hand in my hair the other pulling me closer.
"Nope, presents now then she needs to get dressed. Go and help Cole and Caspar." He pulls away smiling and the sticks his tongue out at Amber.
"Fine see you both soon, but not too soon."
"How long do you need?" Amber gives him the side eye.
"About an hour." With that he leaves. Amber skips over and hands me a huge white box with a bow. Placing it on the bed I remove the lid and the part the delicate white paper.
"Wow..." Amber claps her hands and smiles.
"You like it?" Slowly I lift the dress from the box.
"Its perfect."
"Try it on then!" I just laugh and do as I'm told. The dresses flowing fabric lands perfectly just below the knee and flows like silk when I move. Standing in front of Damon's floor length mirror I can't help but hold the hem and keep moving it. It's almost completely white, but when the light catches it something in the fabric seems to shine and it gives the dress almost an ethereal quality.
"It's beautiful Amber, thank you."
"Go sort out your hair and then we can really start celebrating." This time I stick out my tongue and go into the bathroom. Damon has been nice enough to bring over my make up bag and hairbrush. I start brushing my hair but drop it when I finally look at my face. Before I was so focused on the dress that I hadn't noticed my eyes. They were blue before but now they look as if they have been lit from within, even my skin had this weird new glow to it and the gold in my hair shone brighter than before. Leaning forward to look at my eyes I notice they are more than blue, looking close enough they are speckles of red, only noticeable on very close inspection.
I pick up my hairbrush and continue getting ready, this is mad. I can't believe that not so long ago I was just a normal person living my life and now...I was something else. I apply a small amount of mascara but it's not necessary, my eyelashes are already longer and darker. A hear and light knock on the door and it opens so I decide to leave my strange new reflection and go out.
"Wow...Happy birthday Carmen." Cole stands awkwardly inside the door holding 2 more small boxes. I really do feel spoilt.
"I will give you two a minute." Amber gives me a small smile and gently shuts the door behind her.
"You look amazing, and your eyes...wow." I laugh nervously.
"Thanks, I only just noticed them myself." Awkwardly shuffling his feet, he hands me one of the boxes.
"I found this in Toms room this morning. I thought you might want it." I sit on the bed unsure if my legs could me. The perfect present he had said. Unwrapping the box I can see he was right. Inside is a delicate silver charm bracelet with one charm. A pair of angel wings. Lifting it out the box I notice a small piece of paper underneath.
