Constant Temptation - Chapter Sixteen
Louis's POV
It's a mess, really, of what happens next. You have Niall and Markus in the corner, arguing about who's going to take care of 'the body'. Referring to the rotting corpse of a vampire like that... it makes it sound like one of my Dad's cases that I would hear about growing up, making the situation seem decreasingly less real.
After Cole had insisted to Harry that he could take care of Gemma perfectly well and that he should really talk to me about everything, I'd thought we'd be in Harry's room when I could complain about Markus to my heart’s content. After realizing he'd hear me anyway and it wouldn't even make a difference, everything suddenly became too much.
I interrupt Harry somewhat coldly. "Did you know her?" I ask harshly, already guessing the answer.
He sighs. "I'd only just met her today."
I glance over to Markus. "From...?" I'm staring at Harry but he knows that I'm talking about Markus.
He nods. "Markus introduced me to her today."
A look is exchanged between Markus and I, only he grins at me warmly, but I don’t return the expression. My thoughts are too cloudy when I speak. “She was a vampire…” I phrase it as a question and they both nod. “Did you turn her?” I ask Markus and he nods, the disappearing grin gives an indication that he knows exactly where I’m going with this. “’Corse you did. And I’m assuming you knew her well?”
Due to not uttering another syllable, he seems to realize that I now want him to respond properly. He shakes his head. “Not well at all.”
His response makes me scowl. “You’re disgusting.” Insulting a vampire should evoke some sort of fear within me, but I surprise myself by being fairly firm with him.
Harry places his hand on my arm next to me. “Louis…” He begins, in warning.
I cut off Harry though, finding that I’m just not in the mood for this. “No, Harry! Don’t you all see how sick this is? She was a person before he fucked her up!” I shout, pointing at Markus.
“Don’t start pointing fingers before you know the whole story.” Markus responds cockily.
Harry goes to speak from between us but I don’t really want to hear any of it, especially if he’s planning on defending Markus. “I don’t think anything that you say to me will convince me killing a girl was perfectly called for.” I respond forcefully, yet I hardly evoke any sort of emotion from within Markus, not that I was convinced my words could.
“Louis, maybe we should talk about this somewhere else.” Harry says, his grip on my arm somewhat becoming firmer.
“What would be the point in that? He’d be able to hear us regardless.” I state to Harry, who appears to be torn.
“Christ, Harry, you need to get your boy in line. Ever heard of compulsion?” Markus offers, smirking at his suggestion.
Harry shoots him a look. “Oh go back to swooning over my sister, Markus.” If only looks could kill; Harry’s response has actually made the situation seem somewhat lighter in a sense.
Markus rolls his eyes. “Shall I leave you to tame your human then?” He smirks then looks at me smugly. “No hard feelings or anything, sweetheart. I did save you from becoming a meal, after all.”
He looks pleased with himself. “Don’t call me sweetheart.” I reply somewhat viciously.
Harry then proceeds to pull my arm in order to get me away from a man I could really do with killing.
