You giggled a little at his joke, staring into his dark eyes shyly as you played with your straw in your hot coffee. "So what about your family?" you asked, keeping the shy smile plastered on your lips. It was all part of your lie but you hated the feel of it.
"My parents have both passed and I haven't seen any other extended family in over ten years." Despite the content in the words leaving his lips, Sangwoo looked emotionless as though he could be talking about the weather. His tone wasn't any more revealing of his feelings. It could just be he's had to talk about it a lot, you thought to try and ward off your extreme weariness. Being weary of something was always good but too much could cloud your mind and be just as dangerous as none if not more so.
"How did that happen?" Your expression was the perfect mix of shock, worry, and sorrow.
"They were murdered when I was young"
"That's horrible. Did they ever catch the killer at least?"
He shook his head. "No. It's been left unsolved."
"That's so sad... I'm sorry." You place your hand on his comforting him even though he seemed to be unmoved or unupset with what happened.
He didn't pull his hand away but rather returned the question to you. "How is your family?"
"Dead." you stated bluntly causing surprise to flash across Sangwoo's face.
"That's a little blunt. How did it happen?"
"Well, my little brother died in an accident when I was about five and then several years later my mother, unable to handle the pain, tried to kill my father and I before killing herself." You mimicked his style of not caring despite the meaning of your words. It was a lie that you had repeated so many times. You mean, you couldn't very well tell anyone the truth.
"How did you survive?"
"She missed. She just stabbed my shoulder. I passed out in pain or shock, I don't really know, and she thought I was dead. The paramedics were able to revive me and, well, here I am today."
Sangwoo smiled. "Well I'm glad you're here today." He chuckled a little. "I guess you and I are two peas in a pod." You're the second one to say that but we are nothing alike unless you are some serial killer who tortures people in a hidden room.
You giggled. "Yeah, I guess so. What a happy topic on a first date though."
Sangwoo chuckled again. "So this is a date then?"
"If you want it to be."
"What if I don't?" His tone and manner were joking as a smile was painted on his features.
"Then I'll call up my friend that you're still open. She seemed to really like you last night." You smirked back, drinking more of your coffee. It was mostly untouched during your conversation except for a few sips and the dark liquid was already getting cold.
"I guess I also have to thank for getting her off my arm?"
"Yes. No. Maybe." You sipped your coffee innocently as Sangwoo chuckled at your odd reply. You found yourself very amusing too.
After a few moments of silence, Sangwoo said, "I guess if this is a date, then we should probably talk of something less dreary."
You nod in agreement. "Like what?"
"Well.... What do you like to do?"
Taking your time, you drink some more from your cup. "Do you mean like hobbies or men?"
"Hobbies, of course." He playfully rolled his eyes. "Although if I'm the kind of man you do we can talk about that too.~"
You giggled. "Don't push your luck." You masked your emotions under a poker face as you continued, in a low whisper, "And I secretly tie up people and torture them in my basement before killing them."
