I was woken to the most annoying noise in the world. My alarm. I quickly tap my phone screen, silencing the alarm. I lay there for a few minutes debating whether my education is worth this torture. I was leaning more towards no when the same blaring alarm went off. I grab my phone and see that I had hit snooze instead of turning it off the first time. I quickly shut it off and throw my phone somewhere on the bed. I didn't hear it hit the floor so it's safe. I keep telling myself get your lazy butt up but my body wouldn't move. Oh well looks like in not going. Just kidding I have to go sadly. I rolled to my right and quickly regretted that choice. I went tumbling to the floor onto the carpet. You know what, it's kinda comfortable down here, maybe I'll stay here. My door opened and I heard a sigh. I could tell it was my mother because I have heard that sigh many times. It's basically the simple way of her saying where did I go wrong.
" Haleigh why are you on the floor " She asked me. I groaned and turned over so I was facing her.
" Because my bed was shorter than I anticipated at the moment. It's actually quite comfortable, maybe I should stay here today and not go to school."
" Nice try honey but you're going. It's your first day at a public school " She said reminding me of the horrible truth. I have been homeschooled my life whole life and my mother decided to put me in public school for freshman year. All of the people that have experienced freshman year, remember that pain only five times worse.
" I made you your favorite breakfast so get ready and come downstairs " She says before closing my door and leaving me on the floor. I get up and walk to the bathroom. I turn on my light and jump back after seeing my hair in the mirror. How did my mom not get scared. I brush my teeth then fix my hair so it looks decent. At this point I don't even try to style it since it falls apart and my hair gets frizzy. I walk downstairs and see chocolate pancakes. What makes this better than any other pancakes, my mom adds ice cream and whipped cream on top. Totally unhealthy but does it look like I'm complaining.
" Maybe this will make your day a little better " She said as she sets a plate in front of my little brother who just say down. He starting 2nd grade and my sister is starting 7th. Speaking of my sister, she came down the stairs dragging her backpack behind her.
" You look worse than me " I say to her.
" Haleigh leave you sister alone " My mom says as she fixed my sister hair. She didn't seem fazed by this and continued eating her breakfast. As soon as we were all done eating, mom rushed us out the door and into the car.
" Three kids, three different schools, this is gonna be fun " My mom said mostly to herself. she dropped off my siblings but I like to refer to them as demons. Mom doesn't really appreciate that though. " Good luck in hell, I mean school " My mom said.
" No you were correct the first time " I tell her before getting out of the car.
I walked into the loud school with my head down and walked to my first period. They had given us our schedules before school started along with a map. I walk in and see only the teacher in there.
" Hi I'm Mrs. Matthews, what's your name " She said.
" Haleigh " I say quietly. I'm not good with new people keep that in mind through out the story.
" Well haleigh just sit anywhere and do whatever till class starts. I'm gonna watch YouTube even though I shouldn't. The other teachers don't need to know that " She said.
" You're probably gonna be my favorite teacher " I tell her.
" That's good to here, all the other English teachers are in their 50's so tje students don't really like them. They make you guys do so much work. I just don't even try anymore. You guys are probably gonna watch a lot of movies in here " She explains.
" Yeah you are definitely my favorite " I tell her. After some time, other kids start to come in and start talking to each other. Catching up from what happened this summer while I just sit there, not knowing anyone. At least it was a small class, probably 15 students in here. Just as the bell rung, a boy walked in with his head down. He sat down next to me and looked up at the teacher.
" Late as always Ethan " Mrs.Matthews said to him.
" See you switched schools with us " He said to her. He turned to me and smirked. Gotta admit, he was really cute. I turn my head and look down at my hands, still feeling his gaze on me. I risk it and look up at him. I see him already looking at me but wasn't smirking anyone.
" Alright I know that you guys don't even know half the people in here so I'm gonna help y'all out " Mrs.matthews explained. I knew where this was going and I didn't like it.
" For the whole year, you're going to be partnered with one person and whenever we do something, you will be working with that person. But the fun part for me is that I'm choosing that person " She explains. I didn't listen until I heard her say my name.
" Haleigh you are with Ethan " She said pointing to the boy next me. Oh no.
" So that's your name " He said to me.
" Yeah and yours is Ethan congratulations we aren't strangers anymore " I said to him.
" A little fiesty arent you, I like it " He mumbled the last part. He's gonna cause me problems I can already tell. Everyone was talking to there partners and I just sat there until Mrs.Matthews walked over to me and Ethan.
" I know he can be a handful so if he causes you any problems, just come to me and I'll set it straight. I think you'll be good for him though " She said before walking away.
" What middle school did you go to " He asked me.
" I was homeschooled until now."
" So you don't know anyone here " He asked even though the answer is obvious.
" No I don't " I say. I was mindlessly drawing random things at this point.
" You're really good " He said while looking at the drawing I did of a window looking out to a sunset. There wasn't much detail and wasn't one of my bests so I was surprised he liked it.
" Thank you " I say so I didn't sound rude.
" So tell me about yourself. We have to work together all year so might as well get to know each other " He said. He had a good point but I've never been good at getting to know people.
" What do you want to know " I asked him.
" Favorite song?" This question was always hard because I could never choose one.
" I could never choose one. Every song makes me feel something or gets a different reaction from me."
" Dang never heard someone give that answer. You're different I like it " He said. I didn't know what to say so I just looked down at my notebook and continued drawing.
" Let me see your schedule " He asked me. I looked at him confused for a second before he asked again but said please at the end. I hand him the yellow paper with my schedule on it. He read over it then smiled.
" We have all the same classes together. I think you and me are gonna end up really good friends " He said. What was this boy getting at. He handed me back my schedule and watched as I drew a rose. After the bell rang I gathered my things and looked up to see Ethan standing there.
" I waited for you since we both don't know where our class is " He said.
" According to the map, we go left then all the way down the Hall and it's the last door on the left " I explain to him while looking at the map of the entire school campus. We walked down the crowded halls and found the class. As soon as we walked in, Ethan froze and stared at some girl who smirked at him. He turned around and whispered " I'm sorry." I was very confused but something made me even more confused. He kissed me.
