Changes

Chapter 3

It was finally the end of the day, the moment I've been waiting for all day. Turns out I am stuck with Ethan on all of my classes but the more I get to know him, the more feelings I start to catch for the kid. He isn't the person I thought he would be.
" Hey can I have your number so we can talk later " Ethan said. He hands me my phone and I type in my number. I hand him back his phone and the bell rung. We grabbed all of our things and walked out together. I saw my mom waiting for me so I said bye to Ethan. I was about to open the door when I see a hand grab the handle. I look up and see Ethan, he opened the door for me and said bye. I get into the car and he closes the door. I stayed quiet since I knew my mom was gonna ask me about him.

We got to Eli's school and my mom got off the car to walk with him. He has to walk across the street but he gets nervous so my mom walks with him. I pull out my phone and go through my notifications. I see that Ethan texted me so I unlock my phone and read it.

E: did your mom ask about me
H: no thankfully and you did that on purpose didn't you
E:maybe, she was gonna meet me one day anyways
H: she's gonna tell my dad then we've both got a problem
E: why would I have a problem
H: I'll drag you into this with me
E:I don't mind
H: you're hard to threaten
E: that's the point babe

Babe? I hear the car door open so I shut off my phone and turn my head. I see Eli climb into the backseat. I place my phone in the cup holder as my mom gets into the car.
" Why are your cheeks red " My mom asked me as she climbed into the car.
" I don't know what your talking about " I say putting my good over my head.
" Does it have something to do with the person you were texting, possibly that boy who opened the door for you " She asked. I pulled my hoodie lower and sunk into my seat, wanting to leave this conversation.

We leave Eli school and drive down the street to kelleigh's school. As soon as she got into the car she went to the back seats and layed down.
" I hate school so much " She said.
" Agreed " I yell causing my mom to glare at me. She hates when we yell, especially if she's next to us.
" School isn't that bad, you guys are just being dramatic " My mom says. I look at my sister and see she was practically dead in the back seat. Maybe we were being dramatic.
" You called it hell this morning " I point out. I could tell she didn't like that I brought that up in front of Eli.
" I was trying to make you feel better and by the looks of it, your first day wasn't that bad " She teased. I knew she was gonna bring that up.
" Can we not discuss that topic mother " I say nicely.
" Oh honey, you act like you don't know me " She said with a smirk. That means I'm screwed.

As soon as the car pulls into the driveway, I jump out of the car and run to the front door. That's when I realized, I didn't have the keys so there was no point in my running to the door. My mom came laughing while holding up the keys.
" The one flaw in my plan " I mumble.
" You can avoid this as much as you want but I'm not forgetting it and we will talk about this " She explained. I think she's making too big of a deal about this. She unlocks the door and I run up the stairs. I threw my backpack somewhere across the room and flopped down on my bed. I reached into my pocket but found no phone. No phone? Uh oh. I remember that I put it in the cup holder when we went to pick up Eli. I go down stairs and grab the car keys from the counter. I went outside and heard yelling from the neighbors. Yikes. I unlock the car and grab my phone. I slam the door then quickly lock it. I was about to walk back inside when I heard a door slam. I looked to my left and saw Ethan leaving the house where I heard the screaming from. We made eye contact for a few seconds before he turned and walked the opposite direction. I watched him for a few seconds before going back inside. I put the keys back on the counter and go back to my room. I decided to text Ethan after that whole incident.

H: you okay

I knew that's one of the stupidest things to ask since I know he isn't. I waited a few seconds before I got a reply.

E: yeah don't worry about it
H: you definitely aren't fine
E: it's nothing you have to be concerned about. Trust me I'm use to if
H: I don't think you should be use to a bunch yelling then storming out of the house.
E: thank you for being concerned bit I'll be fine. I just need to clear my head and walking helps me do that
H: well I'm next door if you ever need anything
E: funny how things worked out like that
H: I've lived here my whole life, how come I've never seen you
E: because you probably stay locked up in your room all day
H: you been stalking me?
E: no I was just guessing looks like I'm right.

I was frightened by the sound of something hitting my window.

H: speaking of which, there might be a stalker outside my window
E: hey I'm not a stalker
H: why are you outside my window
E: because I want to see you

I walk over to the window and see Ethan below. I open the window and see him smile.
"You do realise my parents will kill you if they saw you."
"Well either you come down here or I go up there " He said. There was a tree right next to my window so he would be able to climb in.
" I'll go down there, give me a second." I close the window and slip on my shoes. I was too lazy to change so I still had the same clothes on. I sneak down the stairs and didn't see my mom anywhere. I open the front door and quickly shut it after I walk out.
" Why are you sneaking out " He asked laughing.
" If my mom saw you, she would try to talk to you and ask millions of questions."
" It just means she's looking out for you."
" If that's what you want to call it."
" So why did you want me to come out here?"
" I just wanted to see you."
" You got some explaining to do Missy " I hear my mother say. Busted.
