Magic or sorcery is an attempt to understand, experience and influence the world using rituals, symbols, actions, gestures and language. Modern Western magicians generally state magic's primary purpose to be personal spiritual growth. Modern theories of magic may see it as the result of a universal sympathy where some act can produce a result somewhere else, or as a collaboration with spirits who cause the effect. The past is a term used to indicate the totality of events which occurred before a given point in time. The past is contrasted with and defined by the present and the future. The concept of the past is derived from the linear fashion in which human observers experience time, and is accessed through memory and recollection. In addition, human beings have recorded the past since the advent of written language. (Via Wikipedia)

Story:

Heron:

I reached the convenience store, I met up with the manager and told him that I would be taking my brother's place for the weekend, and so he agreed. I managed to know the basics and calculations that I needed to make in telling the customer about their purchase.

The hour passed by, I've managed to serve 21 so far. Well, the convenience store isn't that popular around town yet, because of its location. People are recommending to go to the market for fresh fruits instead.

I sighed as I kept on serving customers on the cashier, so far 3 people are inside, oh, now it's four. One customer lined up after the other, continuously. The fourth person who just came in lined up as well, a girl.

I finished serving the third customer, now the store is empty once more after I serve this girls' purchase. I took her purchases, chips, and two canned sodas. Hm, well it's usual to spend a weekend with relaxation and with food to match in lazying around.

I checked in the prices and said to the girl with a hat, "That'll be $4." I said. When I took the money, I noticed she took her hat off. Wait, she...

I glanced at her, that face, and that hair, "L-Layla Fountain?" I asked, wide-eyed. She glanced at me, with a surprised look as well. "Heron Shellock..." She said my name. To be honest, I was moved, I think that was the first time she said my full name.

"What are you doing here?" I asked her as I packed her purchases with a plastic bag. "That's my line." She said to me, curiosity is all over her face.

The manager came out from the stock room. "Ah, Heron. Take a 10 minute break. The store will be empty anyway, I'll take your place for now. I had nothing to do anyways." he said to me, wow, out of the blue.

"Let's talk outside..." I said to her as I took off the green apron around my waist as well as the hat uniform of the store. I dragged her at the back of the store, there's a mini garden and two benches.

We sat on one bench, and she gave one canned soda that she bought. "You sure I can have this?" I asked her. She nodded with a smile. I looked away, hiding my embarrassment.

I sighed as I looked down. "You must think it's funny for me to work in a convenience store instead of doing magic huh?" I said, forcing a small smile.

"Your eyes... they show worries, what happened?" She asked. Wait, oh, that's right. I let my guard down on her, my eyes are worried, yet my words doesn't match with my actions lately.

"Fine... but, it's a long story..." I said to her, glancing. "Long stories are sometimes meant to be told once in a while. I'm all ears." She said, with a courageous smile forming in her lips.

"It all began 13 years ago. I was just 4 years old, yet I know much about the outside world then..." I continued to speak.
