Chapter 25: Baby boom

"Come on baby that's it right there in that spot. Oh yeah there you go" Levi murmured

Petra folded her arms against her chest in dismay shaking her head. "Levi the sonographer did not ask you to watch me pee"

Levi leant against the door. "Nonsense. I need to check you're doing it right so the baby is one hundred percent healthy."

"You're being ridiculous it's one sample. Nothing is going to happen. I feel uncomfortable" she muttered letting go of her gown.

"Come on" Levi persisted. "I love you what does it matter"

He stood closer to the door spreading out his arms to hide the view from the others.

Petra grimaced "no we are not going to become that couple that shits in front of another or uses the bathroom at the same time"

"You're seriously going to pretend you have not once let a rip accidentally?" Levi smiled wryly

She felt her face flush with embarrassment and turned the other direction. "I told you" Petra exhaled. "It was the baby"

She could not believe he was bringing this up. Why was he so damn difficult today? She had no idea inviting him to the Ultra sound would mean a stand off. He had not been this petulant at the birthing class..though he was able to feel her up when he was supposed to be massaging her shoulders. Maybe that was it he needed more attention. She resolved that if possible they would have sex in the broom closet whilst the receptionist was taking an early lunch. That should sort him out. She smiled knowingly.

"I'm Sure it was" he said patting Petra's head in a voice that she could only deduce that he still suspected it wasn't the baby but thought better than to press the matter any further.

Okay maybe not. He just messed that up. Big time.

She squatted over the toilet beginning to lift up her gown and twisted her neck to face Levi. "Why are you still here?" She stared at him incredulously.

There was a distinct silence as though cogs were turning in the Ravens mind at that precise moment. "No" he cried. "I still want that sanctuary of not knowing. My sex life would be over!" He declared dramatically slamming the door and running out.

Petra stifled a giggle and sat down to take the bladder sample. Men.

Several hours later Petra was laid on her back staring up at the ceiling in deep concentration. It wasn't like she hadn't had the probe inside her before but it still felt weird which may have been the reason she was reluctant to lift up her robe as the radiographer raised her eyebrows: probe in hand. This was both a cervical and ultrasound she was having done.

"Sorry" Petra muttered as her cheeks flushed a bright red.

The radiographer placed the probe down onto her desk.

"Petra it's perfectly normal to feel uncomfortable. I can stop whenever you like"

Levi spoke up taking her hand into his and rubbed his thumb across her ring finger up and down.

"It'll be okay babe. I'm here"

She nodded her head lifting the robe up again reassured by both her and Levi's words. The radiographer squeezed out a blob of gel from the bottle and placed it onto her stomach. She felt the cold chill run down her and tried to remain still adjusting to the sudden icy temperature that the gel was.

"You're doing great" he smiled keeping a strong hold of her hand

"Okay ready?" The radiographer picked up the probe resuming the previous position with precise technique as she adjusted the monitor pressing various buttons in a rapid motion to activate the screen.
