Hands wringing nervously, Petra looked into the mirror unable to stop her lower lip trembling. The time had come to join the Survey Corps. To join squad Levi. She had heard plenty of things about the elusive man. Strong, fierce, violent and moody. Petra couldn't stop thinking about it as she brushed her ginger locks from her eyes and exhaled. The opportunity of a life time. It had come and she was excited but tentative all the same. Afraid of what may lurk behind the walls and for her own life and families safety. But she had given it all up to dedicate her life to humanity. A savior; they would chant her name as she envisioned returning from a mission having eliminated more titans. Straightening her jacket she looked at her reflection one last time before turning on her heel towards the door.

Her dad was waiting for her down the stairs who embraced her at the given opportunity, holding her tight. "My sweet Petra. I am so proud." His eyes glazed over and she kissed his cheek.

"I love you Dad. I'm going to miss you." She replied wiping a stray tear from her face. Hugging back harder, she tried to remain strong, aware this could be the last time she saw him for a while.

"You're strong Petra. You've come so far. Now it's your moment. My daughter the soldier."

She melted at his words and smiled. "Oh Dad." She laughed. "You're making this goodbye awfully difficult."

He glanced at her uniform, the blazer with the emblem and a look of pride radiating from his body. "Im sorry I don't usually get emotional." He replies chuckling.

Hands twitching, emerged an envelope addressed to her which he passed over. She raised an eyebrow.

"What is this?" She pointed to the letter accusingly. Arms folded in defiance.

He shook his head and she saw between the facade a man struggling from his ashen complexion and unshaved stubble. "Just something I want you to read at a later date. When you have children of your own."

Petra lowered her head. "I doubt that will be the case." She mumbled sadly grasping at the letter tightly.

He brushed her hand and she felt a familiar warmth circulate through her. She would miss this.

"You will make a good mother Petra. When you do. But for now a good solider and a good team member. I love you."

She threw herself at him again knocking the wind out of her father who clutched at her shirt. "It's time to go now." He whispered and kissed her forehead.

She pulled away slowly, trying to ignore the fact her heart was breaking. "I'll speak to you when I can. I love you."

She exited the room before she ran back into his arms and never left. Wiping tears away, she hoisted her weary figure onto the horse and rode towards the inner district. Away from their cocoon of solitude, she reminisced clutching tighter onto the reigns. The speed of the horse propelling her forward, making her face the reality and look towards the future.

Ten minutes later, she emerged through the gates and walked towards the other members. A man tall and slender in physique, blond, caught her attention. She headed towards him feeling bold all of a sudden.
