San Francisco, California
United States of America
Unknown POV
San Francisco had a way of becoming muted.
Even as the usually hustle and bustle of city life started to occur at the early hours of day, the sounds were dulled and muted. Like being inside a bathroom at a concert. A dull roar of sounds filtering through the foggy air.
Her job wasn't to dwell on the sounds of the city however, her mind had been racing ever since her sensors had picked up the energy. It was a monumental amount of transdimensional energy, one that could only have been from one type of artifact: a paradox artifact.
The fact that after so long, a hint of the object had appeared was great news for all Catalysts.
Her combat boots hit the sidewalk with a powerful force, people moving aside without looking up. Absorbed in their own minds to pay attention to her.
Good. she thought. The more invisible I am, the better.
A small cafe named The Rainy Eye sat on the caddy corner of a street flickered on its open sign, and the woman slipped in silently. Slinking her way up to the counter where a tired faced barista was setting up for the day.
"I'll be right with you ma'am. I just about-" he stopped and then his face fell into an irritated glower.
"Luie, do you know that I have been trying to contact you for weeks now. It's kinda rude to leave your friend on read," his thick black eyebrows raised in mocking manner.
Luie chuckled and set her gloved hand on the counter, black just like all the other clothes she wore. "You know you love me, Perry. I have a favor to ask of you," she said and pushed forward a ancient roman coin. A token of gratitude.
Perry didn't know anything about who Luie really was. He was just a nieve college kid trying to make ends meet, and one who loved to collect coins. He didn't know that she actually got them from the eras they represented, but he was grateful to her nonetheless. She on the other hand, needed his hacking skills.
He didn't know she worked for an organization that wanted to bring time to its knees and control it.
He just thought she was a edgy historian. Which she was, but there was much more to all the edge she carried in her persona.
Perry looked at the coin in disbelief. Then into her eyes.
"What the hell! I've been trying to find a Roman coin for months now! How'd you do it?" he said as he gingerly picked up the piece of metal and examined it closely. His eyes lighting up like a child in a candy shop.
"I have my ways. But seriously, Perry, I need a favor. Do you think you could get me a ticket to South Korea? I know you're skilled enough."
He looked up from the coin, his thick lips making an O shape.
"Airport ticket? That's an easy hack, are you sure there's not more? Also, why South Korea?" wrinkles formed in lines on his forehead as he raised his eyebrows up again, his dark brown eyes wide with question.
He always asks too many damn questions.
Luie closed her eyes in a mild frustration, it was way too early for this, but she was on a mission, sent by her higher ups on an investigative search on what and specifically where the artifact was. That way, if they were quick, the catalysts could access it before those damn robed freaks from ICAT got their hands on it.
