We step inside and I find my dad has already turned the fireplace, and is cooking something delicious on the grill. I hurry upstairs and change into warm, oversized sweatshirt. Finally warm, I go to the kitchen to see what is for dinner.

"Hey Dad. What's cooking?" I ask coming up next to him.

"Oh! Hey, Mady. Grilled cheese and tomato soup. But for you, peanut butter and tomato soups." he says, looking at me sideways.

I am dairy allergens. No dairy. At all.

"Oh. Ok." I say disappointed.

He gives me a sympathetic look. I am the only one in in my family who is intolerant to dairy.

"Hey. I heard you guys went and registered for the Special today! You didn't leave me out did you?" He says brightly, changing the topic.

"Oh yeah. Peter, Tate and I got two drawings! Can you believe it?! Mom splurged. Parents only got 1." I say, boasting but giving him a teasing smile.

"Oh! How dare she! Never mind. I know how much you have been visioning this event with you winning and being able to work with Gabby Douglass for the gymnastics Special." My dad says feigning surprise.

I look side long at him and laugh.

He looks back at me, and laughs along with me while pulling me into a bear hug. This replaces the food disappointment for tonight.

"Dinner!" Mom calls from the kitchen.

No sooner, my brothers come stampeding down the stairs and run past me and Dad. We shrug at each other and follow them.
