It was when I walked for the last time through my bathroom to verify and I didn't forget anything, I noticed I'd already validated my sneaking suspicion that I wasn't as great at packing as I thought. My eyes fell on my not-so-super-clean hairbrush that I was too-damn-lazy to clean just lying neatly on the side of my sink. With the motivational curse words I whispered to myself I picked it up and took it to my overflowing, zipper bound suitcase. I was lucky enough to be able to push it between a very narrow whole between two shits before using all of my strength to zip it back up. With my whole bodyweight towering over the hard plastic, I successfully drove the zipper over its tracks, which resulted in me exhaustingly dropping myself next to the overpacked bag on the mattress.

Today marks the first day of the midweek excursion of my senior class. I'd been up and running since half past 4 so that I'd be able to set my foot into school at 6 am. How amazing Paris may sound, to get there was nothing less than exhausting and time-consuming. I'd been looking forward to this moment since the day I knew this school offered these kinds of trips so it wasn't my biggest concern, but it's still a slight bump in the road. The most exciting part was that I got to travel with my friends and getting treated with a nice big ice cream cone of freedom, which surely sounds like a recipe for a successful week.

While fishing a blonde, rogue lock out of my face, I slowly forced myself to leave my soft mattress. I pulled the handle out of my suitcase and rolled behind me out of my room into my a loud, rather echo-y hallway. The wheels on the creaky wooden floor were clearly a bad match since I could hear my little sister inaudibly whining from her room. "Shut up, Tessa, be happy you don't have to wake up this early when you're 7," I yelled in a whispering tone which resulted in her opening her door. "The fact that you're older doesn't mean you have to wake me up to go to your deathbed with you," she grumbled with her hand tightening on the round, wooden handle. Her hair was as messed up as mine was when I lifted my head out of my pillow and she seems as cranky as a newborn baby. I guess it's clear that not being a morning person runs in the family.

I lifted my bag up to conquer the spiral staircase I was dreading the most with this weight I clearly was not strong enough to carry. I made my way to the kitchen and was immediately welcomed by the ice-cold sensation beneath my feet and hugging my body tightly. Apparently, it's so early even the heater wasn't ready to get out of his dormancy. I rubbed my hands over the sleeves of my sweater in a desperate attempt to warm myself up, as if I ever believed that'd work and I sprinted over the tile-covered floor to get to my fervent friend, the coffee machine.

While waiting on my cup was made, I prepared my breakfast which only consisted of milk and morning oats. I'd already prepared my bag with enough to feed the whole class if I wanted to share, even though it would only take 3 hours to get there.

Luckily the teachers gave my friends and me matching seats within the same boot. Even though that was a recipe for trouble, I appreciated their trust. I'd known Anna and Jackie since the day I was a freshman at their school and even though we had a hard time finding each other, we became -slowly but surely- inseparable.

"jANE," was screamed into my ears, therefore probably perforating my eardrum. A shock traveled through me from the sudden mention and I hastily took my earbud out of my ear. I was staring right into Jackies eyes, looking filled with evil and unknown plans. I sighed," what do you want?". "Do you have something to eat?" She asked in the most sugarcoated tone she was able to produce, helping herself by giving the sweetest and most innocent look on her face. "Let me guess," I slowly said while I hoisted my backpack onto my knees," Jackie the Great was yet again smart enough to not use an alarm and only came prepared with her brother's toothbrush?". Her facial expression quickly dwindled into disrepair," that was one time on girl scouts camp, when will you let that go?". "Face it, Jack," said Anna jumping into the conversation with a sigh," she will never" before pulling her attention back to her phone.

We had currently already surpassed the 30 minutes mark, and we're flying through Belgium on the TGV. It would still take a while before we'd arrive at the station, but I was already losing my sanity. The scenery was fleeting by the window with such speed I was getting a headache. Our small table was filled be with Anna's cosmetics that she hadn't been able to throw on her face due to lack of time. "Look, I'll give you a bag of chips if you pay for our first café in Paris, deal?" She nodded heavily before taking the big bag into her grasping hands and ripping it open like a wild animal. "You didn't say Mcdonalds doesn't count," she said stuffing her face. "Mcdonalds is a restaurant, you bimbo," Anna absently answered while staring into the phone screen she was using as her makeshift mirror. "Never heard of Mc cafe?" Jackie defended, and I rolled my eyes, Mc cafe it is. I looked back at Ann, who was currently filling in her dark eyebrows with unreduced concentrations. "How many boys do you expect to see at our hotel?" I asked, and she gave me a cunning smile while not taking her eyes off of her reflection. "A vacation fling is cute, yet futile, don't try it," she answered and kept concentrating on her coloring book. "And honey, I don't wear make up for boys, but they are an extra pro," she added actually looking at me, before returning to her routine.

I shook my head with a small smile and let my bag slide back onto the ground. I tried making eye contact with Jack, but her vision was taken by her salty heaven in a bag. Knowing she was happy with that donation, I put in my earbud and kept listening to the song that had now come to its end.
