Even though this day was still in its early hours, the Champs-Élysées* was already blooming with life. From luxurious stores to typical American fast-food chains, this street had everything neatly organized in lines. Our hotel was amazingly close to this place which made the way to it nice and easy, perfect for lazy asses like us.

"This thing is truly longer than expected," I said while letting my eyes travel all around the place. "That's what she sa-" yet before Jackie was able to finish that sentence, Anna had hit her shoulder with no mercy. "What? No one speaks English here," she mumbled and I rolled my eyes quite far back into my head. "I think we all understand that part of the language, Jack," I responded whereafter she pointed to the Mc Donalds a couple of meters away. "And this is the first thing you want to do here?" Anna sighed while I laughed. "You want me to spend all my money at some fancy place with no Dutch or English translations?" Jackie clapped back, which was a great defense since none of us could carry a conversation further than a 'bonjour'.
We walked into the place, and with the little vocabulary we could come up we ordered, eventually putting out plateaus down on one of the tables outside. This restaurant did have the McCafe like Jackie predicted, which luckily made sure we weren't forced to eat a Big Mac 10 am.
"You know, most books don't exaggerate. Boys in France do look better than in Antwerp*," Anna said while taking a sip of her strawberry milkshake. Jackie scoffed, but Ann had cut her off. "Don't you say anything, you don't want to show affection to anyone," she quickly said which made Jack simply grin. Anna and I both had the sneaking suspicion that Jack had lost her interest in men a few months ago, yet she hasn't confirmed this conspiracy theory. I don't know what goes down in the head of that circus clown, she might as well be in a loving relationship with Anna's dog. It didn't matter to me, but we were both curious to know what Jack would end up with.

"Still, what's important about looks?" Jack responded while putting down her coffee cup. Ann simply rolled her eyes and looked back at her phone.
There weren't many people roaming the Champs yet, but it still felt extremely energetic. Colors, scents and more washed over the street's tiles and everyone who passed seemed to be in an excellent mood due to their surroundings. Then, everything started going fast. A shadow in dark clothing passed and hit our table with unbelievable speed. Everything placed on the said table was catapulted into the air and inevitably came down in the most inappropriate places, just like Anna's milkshake on my sweater. I felt the frosted sugar dripping down my skin underneath and quite frankly seemed to get a power outage in my head. The adrenaline of the sudden collision was rushing through my body and mind.
The guy was laying a few meters away on the ground and behind him, his upside-down skateboard of which the wheels were still tolling; said board had brought him crashing down us. "Watch where you're going, dude!" Jackie shamelessly screamed while taking a few steps back from the flipped table. He seemed to be more in shock, and all of us combined, making him freeze before eventually quickly jumping on his feet. He didn't immediately respond to Jack, who was clearly boiling from the inside out. "Jack, we're in France. There's no way they speak Du-.." Anna tried to explain to this little tornado ready to start whirling, but the boy had cut her off.
"I'm truly sorry, I was going way too fast and I lost control and.." he said with surprisingly great Dutch vocabulary while lifting up the table. "If you lose control that easily, you need to stay off the street, BUDDY," Jackie barked, yet before she could actually attack this guy, Anna had already pulled her in a restraining embrace. He seemed pretty impressed by the hard words, whereafter he stood up again. "Yet again, I'm really sorry, girls. I really couldn't have changed this situation," he said while taking a few steps back to collect his board. "Drive slower next time," I mumbled with a sigh, yet it looked like he'd heard me. Even though I thought I was inaudible, he'd turned his head towards me. His light blue eyes seemed to puncture mine, which made me melt more than the milkshake that was still dripping down my clothing. I felt like I was completely frozen by his stare and wasn't able to escape his gaze as if he didn't even give me a chance to breathe. Whatever I was feeling, it looked like he's feeling it too.
"But hey! Who's going to pay for these damages? I put all allowance into this," Jackie screamed while still trying to slide out of the human straitjacket. He nodded quickly and took out his unusually not-so-flat wallet for someone his age, most of the time I wouldn't even have the coins to purchase a button. "Here," he said honorably and handed her a few colored notes. "Oh, wait, that's too much for an Mc Donalds m-..." I tried to say, but Jack quickly spoke over me. "A milkshake can be more expensive than you think," it was only then that the guy seemed to notice that my sweater was an artwork of the sticky, cold substance. He took a step closer to me which made me feel the dominance radiating off of him; my legs promptly refused to move outside of the boundaries of the street tile I was standing on. He took hold of the edging of his dark blue sweater and pulled it over his head. "Wow, hello, the Moulin Rouge is a few meters further west!" I blurted out, and the little smile he gave in response to this seemed to make the air around me start to boil. He eventually removed the fabric to reveal just a white shirt underneath. He handed me the sweater, still with the small smile on his face. "Keep it, I promise I'll make this up to you one day," He said before leaving us behind. "I have no need to see your face again, typical youngster," I heard Jackie say while I followed him with my eyes back to his skateboard that he had picked up again and drove off with. Only then I noticed how I'd had an audience this whole time.
"What?" I asked while laying the sweater over my arm. Jack raised her eyebrow while she let her fingertips slide over the notes. "That guy was checking you out," she said, and Anna nodded in agreement," and you were busy yourself too". I rolled my eyes. "That's too cliché to put into words," I mumbled as an answer," you guys have watched way too many romcoms". However I unzipped the zipper, I was done with being cold. I was definitely planning to change in the hotel soon again because I wasn't in the mood to wear a stranger's attire today, but I still wanted to endure these morning temperatures. "Honestly, I didn't know bowling was a public sport here played wherever and whenever," Jackie said while the door behind us opened. A broad woman made her way to us, a sharp expression accentuating her face. She seemed to be having a tornado of rage just waiting to be released through her mouth. "Qui va nettoyer ça?" she shouted at us, we were both clueless to what she'd just said. "What's she yelling?" I whispered to Anna who just started at the woman completely stunned. "I'm not sure, but I think we better run," she responded, whereafter we booked it down the street, back into the general direction of the hotel. Whatever she said, we'll never know. The only thing I know for sure is that I won't be visiting that establishment for the next 25 years.
