Abigail's POV

Two days had passed, and Sam kept to his word. He never left my side no matter how many times I told him he could. He was just as stubborn as I was. It was odd to be met with someone as stubborn as I am. Still he was a great help, we stayed hidden most of the time, but we still needed to collect food from the garden as well as do a few other chores outside. Which explains why I am hanging laundry again while Sam is not too far in front of me chopping more firewood, shirtless. If this was god's way of teasing me...he was doing a very good job.

Now I hadn't seen very many English men with their shirts off, but I had never expected him to be toned under that white cotton shirt. Don't get me wrong I'm sure they were but seeing it for my own eyes made me begin to question things in my heart and my mind. I wasn't sure what was going on between Sam and I but I knew that he was a good kisser and was doing well at taking care of me. Taking a sheet from the basket beside me I begin to hang it up on the line and glance over Sam's way only to see him no longer there. Confused I looked around for a moment thinking he might have been taken until I feel a pair of arms come around my waist.

"Looking for me my dear?" Sam whispered in my ear making my body tremble but in a good way.

"Shouldn't you be chopping wood?" I question trying not to smile but failing miserably.

"I'm nearly done, thought I would check to make sure you weren't overdoing anything." Sam answers as he turns me around to face him. "I don't want you to pass out again, you nearly gave me a heart attack."

Just as I was about to reply a gunshot went off behind me, the sheet covered both Sam and I, but we kept silent hoping the chaos would go a different way. We weren't so lucky though. We had changed our clothes a few days ago and just looked like common folk, so we could blend in and I believed that helped in our advantage. We could hear the horses stomping our way. Sam gently pushed me behind him as a British Soldier rode up and looked down at us.

"You there, have you seen an English officer, a colonel to be precise riding this way with a woman in tow?" the soldier asked Sam.

"Can't say I have sir, has something happened?" Sam questioned using his best American accent and keeping me behind him.

"Rushing off to marry the whore, says she's carrying his bastard child but most of you Americans as you call yourselves are liars." He replied not even looking at Sam but looking forward to seeing if he could see anyone. "I must be off, if you see them then send them back to the camp."

Nodding Sam and I watched as the soldier rode off. Taking my hand, Sam quickly took me inside and bolted the door behind us. Throwing some wood into the fire I sensed he was trying to come up with a plan.

"You say your mission here is to stop history from changing, if she has that baby it will all change. Shouldn't your goal then be to send her back and stop her all together?" Sam questioned cleverly.

He was right, that is what would end the mission. I couldn't believe that Hannah nor I had thought of that. I tried to think of a way to agree with him without looking like a total fool for not thinking of the idea myself.

"Even if we needed to, we have no idea where that man is taking her to marry her. Not to mention as you saw she won't go down without a fight." I reply as I walk up to him.

"Then we hunt them down, I can take down the colonel easy, he was only promoted to that rank because of his blood, you and Hannah could take care of Christine and send her back but then what?" he asked as he came to me and took my hands in his.

"Once our mission is done, then we leave never to return." I whisper trying not to hear the answer myself.

Sam was silent for a moment but then he pulled me into his arms and embraced me. He held me close as the fire began to burn hotter and hotter still we did not move. Wrapping my arms around him I was trying to be rational, but I knew it would not work. Pulling back just a bit, Sam leans in and kisses me.

"Why can you never return? Would that alter something?" Sam asked with a sigh not really wanting to know the answer.

"There's only one way I know of to return...if after all my missions are done, I could return to a time and call it my forever time. My home."

Looking deep into my eyes I can see Sam is trying to read me.

"Then come back to me, to here and to where we can be together..."

Just as he says that Hannah walks into the house with a basket in her hand, uncle right behind her both froze when they saw the position that Sam and I were in. Clearing his throat, uncle walked passed us, taking Hannah's basket with him, and sat it on the kitchen table.

"Sam...good to see you kept your promise." Hannah grinned as Sam and I separated.

"Yes, she's all better now." Sam replied, and I could even see a small blush coming to his face.

"We can see that, anything happen while we were gone?" Uncle asked as he went to tend the fire.

"We have a plan Hannah, one that could end the mission all together." I tell her as I pull her into another room. "Aren't you missing one person?"

"Adam...he met someone, a woman he had a past with and I knew that he wouldn't be able to help us with out plan no matter what it was and live his life out with her." Hannah admitted with a sigh as she walked to the window. "You and Sam are a more convincing couple either way, hate me if you wish Ab's but you know I speak the truth."

"No, I understand and agree with you telling him to stay behind with the woman. There is no future for any of us here. Not even Chrissy if we act fast." I tell her as we both sit down, and I begin to explain the plan to her.

Hannah listened carefully, no doubt going over every option in her mind and thinking of the statistics of us failing as well. Still she didn't say anything as I told her about the plan that Sam and I had come up with.

"Sound great...how the hell are we going to do it?"

"Well...the Colonel apparently road off to marry her. If we find where they will be married, then we could surprise her." I say as I stand up trying to think of how we could catch her and make it out of here without anyone noticing.

"Yeah, nothing like stealing the bride..." Hannah groaned as she moved to the fireplace and looked down at the flames. "I can't believe one of our own would betray us."
