That evening, Megan was climbing into bed when her coin throbbed on her table.
Megan? Tonks told us about the train incident, are you OK???
Megan smiled.
I'm fine. Don't worry. she said. Though, I'll admit it's thanks to Tonks. How are things your end?
Okay, so far. I'm back home now. No trouble during the trip, then?
No, nothing aside from some gawking.
Ah, well, it was to be expected. You just keep getting more attention.
Yeah, well, sometimes, I could do without. And without the guilt.
Guilt? What happened?
I saw Hagrid.
Cedric didn't answer at once, probably wondering how the two ideas connected.
Is he using illegal dangerous creatures for his classes again?
That's the thing. I have no idea. I'm not taking his subject.
There was a pause.
Oh. I see. And I take it he doesn't know?
No... He'll hate us... Megan groaned.
No, he won't. Sure, he'll be disappointed, but he knows you didn't do it against him.
Megan sighed.
Sorry, but it doesn't help me much... how am I going to tell him?
You'll figure something out. You always do.
Part of Megan wanted to tell him about Malfoy, but she didn't want the Order taking risks if she was wrong. Once she was sure, she'd tell him.
That's why I love you. You always believe in me. Sorry I kept you up so late. I'll let you sleep. Good night. I love you.
I love you too.
She put the coin away and turned over in her bed.
Hoping to get support from Hermione, Harry repeated what Megan had told her and Ron in the common room the next morning.
"But he was showing off, right?" Ron insisted.
"... Well, I'd say it's his type." Hermione admitted cautiously. "And he's definitely one to make himself look important, but... lie about something like that? It would be really dangerous... if any real Death Eaters found out, they would kill him... wouldn't they?"
Harry was about to say something, probably to use Hermione's point to press his own, but Megan hushed him, because lots of people were trying to listen. When they weren't whispering and pointing, that is.
"Now, move along!" Hermione said sharply. "Go on, all of you!"
"I love being a sixth year," Ron said. "We'll have loads of free time."
"You know, we are supposed to use the time for studying, Ron," Megan smiled.
"Today's going to be a downer, though..." Harry put in.
"Hold on, there!" Hermione said, holding out an arm to stop a fourth year. "Fanged Frisbees are banned, I'll take that."
And she did. Then, they headed to breakfast, where Megan and the others told Hermione of their mortifying conversation with Hagrid.
