That evening, Megan barely talked to Harry, unsure what to think of his attitude. Ron and Hermione weren't much help, either. She was busy studying, and so, surprisingly enough, was Ron. After dinner, he'd finally managed to speak to Samara. She'd agreed to help him study, as they were now. Which meant that Megan was all alone. So, as soon as she'd finished her homework, she went to bed. So, she was pleasantly surprised when Cedric contacted her.

Hey, love of my life. How was your first day?

Megan smiled.

Hey back, love of my existence. Well, it could have been worse, I suppose.

Tell me what happened.

She did.

Snape in Defence? That's definitely weird... but if he is a Death Eater, I doubt he'll do anything big right under Dumbledore's nose, he's not so stupid. And as for Harry... Well, Half Blood Prince doesn't ring any bells with me, but if I hear anything, I'll tell you.

Megan sighed.

Thanks... but what should I do? He was so captivated, it's... I don't know, I don't like it.

Well, Ginny's experience is definitely a bad one, and I see why you'd worry. But there may not be anything to worry about. Just... keep an eye open. If he does start acting dangerously, or really differently, let Dumbledore know.

Megan hesitated. That could get Harry into trouble, she didn't want that. Although, it might be the wake up call he needed...

Cedric seemed to sense her doubt.

If the book was reacting to his touch or something, it'd be one thing. But so far, nothing's happened except an overenthusiastic teenager.

Yes, that's true, but...

I know. But it will just make your tensions grow if you keep trying to reason him. Just keep an eye on him for now. Okay?

... Yeah, maybe you're right. Maybe I'm just making too big a deal out of this. Well, I better get some sleep. You too. Good night.

Night, Megan. I love you.

I love you too.

For the rest of that week, Harry scrupulously followed the instructions of the "Half Blood Prince". Megan, however, scared, refused to even look at them. Which had the result that Harry soon became top of the class, even surpassing a vexed Hermione.

"You're just sore he beat you," Ron commented when they mentioned it one morning.

"No I'm not!" Hermione snapped. "Megan beat me in Defence Against the Dark Arts in our third year, and I didn't fuss over that, now, did I?"

Hermione was in an increasingly bad mood because her following what she called "official instructions" kept giving her poorer results than the Prince's notes gave Harry. Megan and she tried again to reason with him, to no avail. Harry sometimes said he wondered who the Half Blood Prince was. There was almost not a single page on which he hadn't noted something. There were also indications for spells that he seemed to have made up himself. Megan was eyeing Harry anxiously, but had long since realised he wouldn't hear anything against the book or this Half Blood Prince character. She looked at her watch.

"I'd better move, Dumbledore's going to be waiting."

"Ooh, that's right!" Hermione said excitedly. "Well, good luck, Megan! We'll wait up! We want to know what he's teaching you."
