The walls to the edifice were pure hefty brick that took the old dull colors and seemed to be weathering away. The frames and tapestries along the walls presented more vivid images of an ancient village and angels fighting with demos. Luke walked ahead of me, leading toward wherever the "abandoned west wing of the palace" was.

It made no sense- them wanting to keep me. I was not of great importance and could not do anything that they did. I wasn't a vampire. I wasn't going to be of great use, so why keep me exactly?

Seems you are a rare one child. Irene had said, her voice still running around my head. What had she even meant?

Luke lead me in a pace almost impossible to keep up with. We were passing along a wide corridor with a dark purple carpet and no windows as lighted candles illuminated dimly the hallway. He sharply turned around a corner to the left as my sore thighs and aching feet attempted staying right behind him.

"Can you slow it?" I hissed in an imperceptible hush under my breath to him. My bones felt like snapping from the sheer exhaustion and my head wanted to just explode from the mayhem of this distorted situation. My combat boots were too tight and my clothes were drenched with cold sweat from the excise hours ago.

"Why are you so fatigued? How long did you even run?" He questioned in a flat tone, all the emotion absent in his voice. His back was to me, his blond hair the only thing visible, so I couldn't see his facial expression but something told me it was as impassive as his voice was.

"It was far." I answered. My mind was working improperly and my thoughts seemed to be getting tangled with the words. It was becoming physically impossible to speak, as if the words accumulated behind my lower lip and came out stumbled like ice crushing.

He didn't respond or talk any more.

There were a pair of doors on the right that were sealed as no light could be seen to trespass. Ahead of us was a threshold in white wood and a perfectly polished silver knob that shined under the light bulb positioned above the door. Caroline stood beside with an unimpressed mien and an exasperated face.

"Couldn'tve of stopped to purchase a smoothie and cookies for all?" She humored in a sarcastic voice that I had to roll my eyes. I heard Luke mutter something faint under his breath that became inconceivable for me to even try and figure out what he meant to say.

Opening the door, I could feel cold air pinching my skin like needles as my vision tried adjusting to the sudden scintillating and luminous light. The walls were bathed in an impeccable white that blinded my senses.

At first sight, there was a L-shape black leather sofa pressed against the wall to my right as all furniture was black ash wood. A massive TV that looked expensive sat on the floating TV stand espresso as the bottom racks of the holder were unoccupied. In the middle of the dark frieze rug rested a table set with black glass surfaces. No frames or decorations adorned the small expanse walls, making the place look considerably desolated apart from the exorbitant furniture.

"Nobody ever uses this side of the palace. I don't even know why Eric bothered to keep it..." Caroline wondered off looking around in inquisitiveness, as if she'd never step foot in this place either. My eyes shifted to the right corner where a whole other room was presented.
