Waking up is such a burden when the room is bathed in darkness. At the Brook's residence, comfortable warm light enveloped the room every morning when the sun rose. Here, though, there are no windows for the early morning rays to enter the room within and illuminate the dark.
Sitting up I could spot the staircase be lit from the light above the floor as murmurs of voices were audible but indecipherable to comprehend. Removing the thick duvet from my body, my feet moved to swing off the edge of the queen size bed as I attempted searching for my pants in the twilight.
The night before was a haze to my morning mind that whirled as my eyes were droopy. Through the mist, I could clearly remember heading back to the room after Eric had evaporated and Caroline's irritated demands to sleep because of the occupied day that anticipated me. Not having the merest vigor, I had unzipped the dress, pull it over my head, and collapsed on the bed like a robot before falling front on the bed and passing out in the cut of a second.
With my jeans and shirt in place, the scintillating light blinded my vision as I got up from my sitting place in bed. The megawatt bulb rendered me sightless as my eyes screw shut and I fell back on the mattress from the sudden dizziness.
"Rise and shine, Princess Brooks. That hectic day I was informing you of yesterday? Yeah, it's today." My eyes had impediments opening but I could hear Caroline's already nettled tone and make out the two dark figures at the bottom of the stairs.
"Where will I even go?" My voice was grating and scratchy as my eyesight began calibrating. I could now perceive Luke's impassive mien and Caroline's tedium demeanor as both were dressed in black everything. Caroline wore black leather jeans that clung to her legs, black booties that made her look taller, and a black long-sleeve shirt, while her blonde long hair was pinned to the side and fell like cascades to either sides. Luke's black ripped jeans were skintight to his long legs, he wore a black shirt that hugged his torso in the most distracting way, and had his blonde hair in a towering quiff.
"School." Caroline grinned in a mischievous manner as her eyes dazzled with malevolent which had me wide awake. My mind was pulsating with multifarious probabilities of what was in her mind.
"So hurry along darling. Calum detests tarries." Caroline said in a thick British accent her brother didn't seem to possess. Most of the vampires appeared to speak with an Australian accent, if I'm not mistaking. She turned and, in human speed, took step by step up the stairs to the living room above. Luke followed seconds later in a much slower pace.
All the queries in my head were causing my mind to spin. Who was Calum? What was 'school' going to be like? Will there be more vampires? Why am I attending school anyways?
Propping myself up to my feet, I ambled slowly towards the bathroom to shower and wash all the dirt off my unhygienic skin.
The water was simple enough to handle and get at the right temperature before peeling my clothes off. The water vapor now swaying in the air had fogged the mirror and any surface in the bathroom. With the door locked, I pushed the curtains aside and stepped into the tub.
The water was searing and virtually intolerable to handle, but I liked it that way. Compared with all the messed up events going on in my life everyday, the scorching and sweltering water made it known I was still alive. Made me realize that I could still feel and wasn't the broken and immobile girl I felt so inside.
