My stomach growled with ferociousness in its hunger state. I had devoured the entire meal last night for dinner yet I seemed famished. Calum chose on setting me free for the day and sent me off away but really, all I wanted to do was bury myself in the umpteen shelves of books in the library. He seemed kinder than the image stapled on my mind and it was refreshing knowing not all of the vampires I would be spending time with were complete assholes.

When I exited the library, the corridor was deserted and Caroline was nowhere to be seen. Luke grumbled some profanities under his breath in irritation before running his hand through his surprisingly disheveled blond hair. My eyes advanced to his bottom lip where there was a ring piercing that made his appearance look more attractive. Can vampires even get piercings?

"Whenever you're ready?" An exasperated voice snarled, snapping me back to the present moment. Luke stood with an aggravated expression on his face. I blushed at the fact that he just caught me ogling his lips before composing myself and turning to walk back to the room.

It is just as I remembered and I had somewhat hoped it would change to something less abandoned. With my stomach no longer bearable, I prowled to the kitchen in hopes of getting fed by anything hiding in the cabinets. If there was any food at all...

Scouring the kitchen cupboards one by one, most opened to be glass bowls and plates while others were fancy silverware or unknown boxes of food. Ultimately, I found a box of Froot Loops in the last cabinet and pulled it out. Luke was motionless by the entrance, with his hands behind his back and his eyes locked coldly at my every move.

"What are you looking at?" I murmured with my back to his front while reaching the cabinet and retrieving a round, crystal glass bowl.

"Looking after you. Seeing if you need any help." He responded. His answers were brief and small in an austere manner that he did not sound his age.

"I'm a big girl - I can take care of myself." I chuckled a little quiet laugh under my breath and began pouring the cereal into the bowl. Then acquiring a spoon, I initiated eating the multi-colored round circles of cereal while sitting on a stool next to me.

"There is milk in the refrigerator." He said, letting me know the obvious.

"I'm sure there is." I retorted and proceeded eating my cereal without milk; just the way I've been taking it the past years and like.

"Beside, I'm not so sure about you really being able to take care of yourself that much." He said, padding along to the stool across the kitchen island and taking a seat in front of me. Well this is a first.

"Please explain." I urged while sticking another spoonful of cereal in my mouth and looking up at him with an expectant mien.

"Why were you in the woods two days past?" He inquired which turned my defensive mode on. I had to think twice about all the thoughts rushing through my head and willing to escape out of my mouth.

"Everyone needs a place to think." I answered and went along eating as if the question didn't mean something.

"Do you normally bring clothes to these places of yours?" He retaliated.
