The morning carried on achingly stagnant as I sat in the kitchen counter with my copy of 'Romeo and Juliet' in hands, reading the tale for the millionth time. Beside me sat a round bowl brimful with the chips I had randomly found in one of the wooden cabinets.

O, she doth teach the torches to burn bright!
It seems she hangs upon the cheek of night
As a rich jewel in an Ethiop's ear-
Beauty too rich for use, for Earth too dear
So shows a snowy dove trooping with crows
As yonder lady o'er her fellows shows.
The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand
And, touching hers, make blessèd my rude hand.
Did my heart love til now? For swear it, sight,
For I ne'er saw true beauty til this night.

"Romeo and Juliet? How typical." Luke's voice spoke from the entrance in complete mock.

"Some of us like the hopeless romantics and cruel endings." I retorted plainly, not looking up to see his eyes or beautiful face. Romeo first seeing Juliet, later to realize she is a Capulet, was more interesting than Luke's nettlesome demeanour.

His answer from earlier engendered the rage inside me, as I refused to consider his presence. Insinuating I was incompetent to take care of myself made me bite my tongue from my malicious comments towards him.

"I never took you to be a reader of Shakespeare." He says and I could only imagine a cocky grin on his lips.

"Surprise." I spoke solemnly as a fake smile of congratulations materialized in my features. I proceeded reading while intentionally disregarding Luke's existence in the room.

If I profane with my unworthiest hand
This holy shrine, the gentle sin is this:
My lips, two blushing pilgrims, ready stand
To smooth that rough touch with a tender kiss.

"Why so short on words today, Annaliese? Cat got your tongue?" Luke was complacent on his attitude towards me. I could feel him closing the space from where he was leaned against the entrance to the kitchen island before me.

With a loud thud, I clasped the book shut in unabridged ire that already bloomed from the vex I felt for him from a few hours prior. My head flew up to meet his boastful vibrant blue eyes and egotistical grin that illuminated his features as my mind forgot what I was going to retort for a second. Immediately remembering, I opened my mouth to retaliate but in that second the front door unbolted and collided with the back wall.

Bree's honeyed laugh was audible as she fluidly waltzed into the kitchen and my way with a gracious smile on her lips. The boy that was with her my first day here who I've never seen since then was boisterously laughing to whatever it is they had found hysterical. Caroline modestly sauntered in after them in solemn strides and unpretentious chuckles.
