Noriaki and Jotaro were always the quiet types, valuing silence more than meaningless chitter-chatter. Conversations between them ranged from short and quiet to long and loud; none was better than the other. Usually, the two dropped the conversation of which they were speaking if they had nothing else to talk about. A comfortable gap between speech settled, leaving both relaxed in each other's presence.

This time, however, it was different.

Despite them both being rather undemonstrative (or at least trying to be), the two crusaders could read the other well. When something was wrong, the other would know. They fit together like a puzzle piece.

Currently, both seventeen year olds were trying their best to rest. It wasn't quite night yet; darkness would come in a few hours. Still, the blue sky was dulling, and the world was relaxing. Unfortunately, neither Jotaro nor Kakyoin were.

The dark-haired delinquent stared at a wall, hat off. Though he lay in his bed, his main focus wasn't on falling asleep. He turned to look at the other male in his room, eyebrows twisted into an expression that shows (a lot) more than his usual amount of dismay.

The red-head lay propped up against a great many pillows for comfort, an arm across his torso and another across his chest, hand playing absently with the collar of his pajamas. A soft blanket covered him as he lay on the futon. Jotaro wasn't by far the better one at reading faces, but he could tell from the distant look in the other's eyes that something was off. He wondered if it was the painkillers that made him have such an absent look, or whether he was really lost in thought. He looked sad.

"Mm... Nori?" Jotaro began, holding himself up with his elbows to get a better view of the other. "You alright?"

Kakyoin blinked a few times, before looking over with his tired eyes. "Ah, jojo... I'm fine..." He replied, his voice dull and quiet. His usual diction on his words was gone, replaced with a softer way of speaking that matched the lack of sparkle that was usually in his eyes. He returned back to staring at nothing, delicate purple irises matching Jotaro's crisp blue-green ones for only a moment.

"You don't look fine."

Jotaro cursed himself inwardly for coming off as so brash. He hoped Noriaki would understand, and although he frequently did, every time he accidently took a harsher tone with him it made him feel extremely guilty.

Noriaki shifted slightly, grimacing as even the subtle movement shot small amounts of pain through his body. At least he could see him better. "I really am, Jojo. Don't... don't worry about me." Kakyoin looked at Jotaro for a few more moments before closing his eyes. Jotaro wasn't buying it.

"Kakyoin. Talk to me." He says, apprehension and concern apparent in his tone. The muscular male sat up, stretching a little before fixating his sight back on the other. "..Please." He added. His heart sped up a little. Ironically, most of the battle with DIO took place after it was over. He knew it had been really hard on Kakyoin for the past weeks, and he was trying to be as calm and patient as possible for him.

"I..." Kakyoin began, making eye contact. "I know this sounds ungrateful, but.." He paused, breath hitching in his throat. "I don't feel like I should have survived the fight with... with DIO. I barely aided the mission, and now I'm just a burden on you and your family, and even my family. I'm sorry--" His voice broke at the end of his sentence, more despairing words resting precariously on the end of his tongue. He buried his face in the numerous amount of pillows in shame.

Jotaro's eyes widened as he saw the other's chest rise and fall unevenly with trembling breaths. He was positive he was crying, or at least close to it. It hurt him to picture. He's seen it more and more frequently, though. Maybe that's why it stung so much. He didn't deserve it.

Unlike Noriaki, Jotaro had a hard time saying what he really wanted to. Both weren't the best at deep conversations, but he definitely had the lower hand. He let out a soft sigh, standing up and walking over to the futon that Kakyoin was resting on. He sat down, careful not to hurt any part of him.

"Nori... you aren't worthless. 'N I know I'm not the best at making sure you know. But m' trying, okay? I'd be lost without you." Jotaro wasn't sure what else to say. Just those few words made his face flush up a little red with embarrassment at being so sappy. But if it'll make him feel better, than...

Kakyoin didn't respond, but his breathing did even out. He couldn't face Jotaro, not like this, not now--

Jotaro lay down beside him, silently taking him into his arms. Though he could feel his face heat up, he didn't let go. There was no reason to be shy around Kakyoin, after all. They've gone through so much together...

"I love you, Jojo..." The Noriaki quietly mumbled, resting his head on his chest. Jotaro lay back, careful not to cause any pain to the one in his arms. He gently rubbed the cheek of the other affectionately with his thumb, a silent response to the statement he made. Not everybody needs words, and his simple touches enough were remedial.

Kakyoin let out a soft sigh. If Jotaro kept this up, Noriaki would be walking in no time.
