That night Gwen poured over LBGTQ community websites, page after page of people asking for advice, begging for help and stories of people sharing their stories and life experiences.
Gwen sat for hours reading, picking at the skin around her fingernails. She was scared and excited at the same time. Scared because she was afraid of how her family and school mates might react. Excited about seeing Indie again on Monday and hopefully getting to know her better.
If she was honest with herself what Gwen needed most right now was someone she could talk to. But who? Cassie? Maybe. Her parents? Not yet. Perhaps her Grandmother Agnes? Definitely not!
Gwen adored her grandmother but Agnes was stuck in the sixties. Old fashioned, close minded, stuck in her ways.
And she'd be here in the morning! Every Sunday was spent with grandma Agnes.
Finally Gwen clicked off her tablet, got under her covers and turned off her bedside lamp.
Laying there she allowed herself to think about Indie and all they talked about.
After exchanging numbers they sat and talked for about an hour and a half. Gwen that learned Indie was an army brat, hence the sudden transfer, loved rock music and best of all loved Magic Daydreamers! Together they gushed over Darius Cloudborn, agreed Nikka Frunce was the most evil villain in all of modern literature and discussed the upcoming final book of the series.
Finally when it had started to get dark they exchanged numbers and made plans to meet up at the bus stop.
Gwen thought about Indie's beautiful long blonde hair and wondered how soft it was. She remembered the way Indie's mouth twisted ever so slightly when she smiled or her brow furrowed when discussing Abagail Anderson, (Darius's girlfriend).
Indie was adorable and Gwen wondered, not for the first time, how someone she just met could have such a major impact on her life.
One thing was for sure, within the course of the last twelve hours her life had been changed.
Gwen fell asleep smiling.
