Cassie was a girl of her word, by the end of the day word of Luke being gay spread like wildfire. They was of course a murmur of interest about the new girl also being gay.
So Gwen spent the rest of her day dodging inappropriate questions, telling people to back off and flat out ignoring people so as not to give them the satisfaction.
Indie handled it with a quiet dignity, smiling and making sarcastic remarks without batting an eyelid.
Luke on the other hand was a mess. By the time the final bell had rung he had pulled up the hood of his jacket and walked with his head down. Gwen felt terrible for him. Even more now that she knew that was probably going to be her fate pretty soon. How would she react? With grace like Indie? Or like Luke? Scared, sad, and crushed?
Best that she probably didn't think about that right now.
"Hey Luke, Luke! Closet got to small for you?" Someone shouted as they waited for the bus.
     Gwen whipped around, "Fuck off!"
It wasn't usual for Gwen to curse but she had reached the end of her rope.
She heard laughter as the bus pulled up.
Unfortunately Cassie was on the same bus as them.
"Hey freaks!", She sneered at them.
Gwen stood up and placed herself between Indie, Luke and Cassie. "Go away Cassie! You've done enough damage today. Just leave it!", She snarled.
Cassie threw her head back and laughed, "Oh I'm so scared bookworm, what are you going to do about it? Oh that's right, nothing!"
She threw them an evil grin and strode down the bus aisle to seat with Dave who was roaring with laughter.
The bus ride home was miserable. Cassie sat towards the back mocking the three of them.
Finally they pulled up to their stop. Gwen, Indie and Luke quickly hopped off and retreated a ways down the street to avoid Cassie and Dave.
"Luke would you like me to come with you to Gwen's or is it better without me?", Indie asked.
Luke thought about for a second before he replied, " Is that okay Gwen? It is your house. Will your parents be upset?"
"Nah, they'll be cool about it. Indie what about your Dad?", Gwen asked Indie.
She smiled, "Well he already knows I'm gay. Not thrilled about it but doesn't rag on me for it. I'll call him and explain."
As Indie walked away with her phone up to her ear Cassie approached.
"Well well.", She started menacingly, "Gaywad one and two are going to space heads house. Gonna have a pity party? Cry and talk abou- OW!", Cassie screamed.
Gwen heard a gasp from behind her. She slowly lowered her arm, shaking out the pain as she did so. She hadn't meant to punch Cassie, but the events of the day caught up to her.
"You freak Gwen!", Cassie yelled with tears in her eyes. "You've always been a freak!"
Gwen swelled up as Dave came running up to them. "Better to be a freak than a heartless bitch Cassie! I'm done with you treating me like shit! Done with you mocking me all the time! Let's get one thing clear, you leave us alone from now on, got it?!?"
"The hell is wrong with you?!", Dave shouted examining Cassie's face.
      "Nothing now.", Gwen said coldly.
Cassie glared and stormed off with one hand over her nose and the other pushing Dave away.
Turning Gwen caught the stunned expressions on Indie and Luke's face. "Err, shall we go?" She asked.
     "That..that..", Luke stuttered.
"Was awesome!", Indie interjected. "Although, violence solves nothing, I'm willing make an exception."
Gwen smiled sheepishly, "I couldn't wait to find a pie." She shrugged.
They burst out laughing as they headed to Gwen's house.
"Seriously though, she's going to make your life a living hell now." Luke said solemnly.
Gwen rolled her eyes, "She always has really. I'm willing to take some of her wrath."
     They exchanged looks.
"What did your dad have to say Indie?", Gwen asked as she dug in her pocket for the house key.
"Just to be home before dinner and stay out of trouble. Although we can safely say that I already failed that last request."
Gwen shook her head, "Nope that ones all me." She opened the door and walked in.
     Her mother was home early.
"Hi sweetie, had to work from home today , your sister is sick."
Gwen's Mom was forever fretting over Jess.
"Hi Mom you remember Luke right? And this is Indie, my new friend." Gwen said.
"Hello Luke it's very good to see you again! And Indie, welcome!" Gwen's mother smiled warmly.
     Indie and Luke smiled back.
"If it's okay when Dad is home we would like to talk with you. Oh and Cassie's mom might call." Gwen said cautiously.
"Oh um, yes that's fine, it might be a little while. Why might Cassie's mom call?" She asked suspiciously.
Gwen smiled, "Because I punched her in the face."
And with that Gwen motioned for Indie and Luke to follow her to her room, leaving a very stunned and confused parent standing in the living room."
