Silence followed her words. A dead, long, horrible silence. Even Luke had quit crying.
Gwen swallowed hard, "Surprise?" She said feebly.
Everyone just stared at her.
And then before she knew it she was being grabbed into a giant hug by her parents.
"Oh Gwen, how long have you known?," her mom asked as she pulled away.
Gwen blinked rapidly taken aback by her parents reactions.
"Um, well only for a few days actually. But I guess looking back it was pretty obvious huh?" She laughed a little.
Mr. Willow laughed and looked at his wife. "You owe me twenty bucks!"
Mrs. Willow shook her head and replied, "Now is not the time."
"Wait, you guys bet on whether or not I was gay?", Gwen asked slightly outraged and honestly a little amused.
"No sweetie, about when you would tell us", Gwen's dad said with a little too much glee.
Gwen burst out laughing, this whole day had been so weird and she felt extremely lucky. Her parents smiled gently at her.
"Honestly Gwen you are always the last one to know!", her mother chuckled.
Luke and Indie were staring at her and suddenly she became a little afraid. What they think of her now?
"Mom, what should Luke do?", Gwen asked quickly.
Her mom sat up and said, "Whatever he feels ready for. Luke don't feel pressured okay? You should tell people when you are ready.", She smiled sadly and continued, "But don't think any different of yourself for one second! And if kids at school bother you to bad come straight to me, understand?" Luke nodded.
"And Indie? Same goes for you, you are welcome here anytime." Gwen's dad said gently to Indie who beamed.
Mr. Willow laughed again and said, "I thought maybe you were secretly dating Cassie!"
"Ew!", Willow cried out, which brought a round of laughter from everyone.
They all sat and talked for a couple of hours. Finally around six it was getting late so Indie said she'd better get going home. Luke nodded in agreement but didn't look so thrilled.
Gwen asked if she could walk her friends halfway home and her parents agreed.
"Your parents are awesome!", Indie exclaimed after the set out in the dark.
"Yeah, I've always thought so too. You going to be okay Luke?"
Luke shrugged, " I suppose so but it's going to be rough at school tomorrow."
Gwen nodded sympathetically, "Yes but I think I'll give them something new to focus on."
Luke stopped and looked at Gwen, "Are you sure? It's going to be pretty intense." He looked worried.
"It's okay, we are all in this together right? I'm not ashamed of who I am. Im here for you both!"
Shaking his head he waved and turned right heading towards home.
Gwen and Indie walked in silence until they reached the park where they had first met.
Abruptly Indie turned towards Gwen. "Are you really going to tell everyone tomorrow?" She had an eyebrow raised skeptically.
"Yes," Gwen said, "I don't see the point in hiding it, plus I won't give Cassie the satisfaction."
Indie nodded, "So what if they ask if you have a girlfriend?"
Gwen blinked in surprise, "Well I don't, so I guess I'll have to disappoint them."
Smiling Indie stepped closer to a Gwen. She smelled like blueberries. The street lamps illuminated her blonde hair which glittered somehow even in the dark.
"Would you like one?"
Indie leaned in and kissed her. Her lips were soft and tasted like mango. As she kissed she wrapped her arms around Gwen pulling her closer as Gwen ran her hand through Indie's hair.
"Yes"
