Gwen decided to invite Luke to sit with her and Indie. The three of them spent the bus ride talking about classes and homework. Indie told them a funny story about girl from her last school who sounded an awful lot like Cassie.
"And then she actually sat on the pie someone had left on her chair!", Indie giggled, "Like I don't usually condone bullying but man this girl had it coming!"
Luke snorted and shook his head. "Man I know a few people who deserve that to happen to them!", he glanced towards Cassie. But at least he was looking happier.
Gwen looked over at where Cassie and Dave were sitting, snuggled inappropriately close together. "So", She began, "what did happen this weekend?"
"Well it's...complicated ", he said evasively.
"Oh, sorry. You don't have to tell me." Gwen said feeling bad she had asked at all.
She had known look since kindergarten and he was a pretty cool guy. They were friends but not like super close.
He shook his head, "No I do want to talk about it, it's just...really personal, ya know?" He looked at Indie and Gwen understood, he wanted to tell her but not in front of someone he just met.
Gwen nodded, "How about you call me tonight and we can talk? You're my friend Luke, just know I'm here if you need me."
Luke smiled, "Yeah that'd be great actually. It'll be good to get it off my chest."
The bus pulled up in front of the school and all three stood and picked up their bags. Indie had turned a light shade of green.
"I hate the first day at a new school. Everyone always stares!", Indie muttered.
Smiling Gwen put her hand on Indie's shoulder, an electric shock went through her. "Don't worry, I'm here for you. I promise we'll eat lunch together and I'll show you around!"
Indie smiled and the three of them got off the bus smiling and laughing together.
