Sunday passed in a blur of nerves and anxiety. Gwen tried her best to enjoy the day with her grandmother but found it more and more difficult by the hour.
Gwen tried multiple ways to distract herself. Reading, playing board games with her family, did her homework she had neglected the night before and when all else failed, watching the Magic Daydreamers movies that she owned. Unfortunately not even Darius Cloudborn could help keep her mind off the following day.
Finally Gwen gave in to a night of restless sleep, praying she would not make a fool of herself.
When she awoke the next morning Gwen got up and carefully began selecting her outfit for the day. Gwen searched her closet in almost a manic state before reminding herself that she had only just met Hailee and was probably overreacting.
What if I'm wrong? She thought to herself. Maybe I'm not even gay! I mean I only spent an hour with this girl.
Gwen always doubted her own thoughts and wasn't always good at reading social situations very well. So could it be possible she was wrong?
In the end she selected a comfortable yellow hoodie, black leggings and her favorite pair of converse sneakers.
She stood in front of the mirror and carefully applied her makeup. Gwen pulled her thick curly hair into a ponytail and turned to examine herself. She scrunched up her nose, smiled, stuck out her Tongue, (this was actually her morning routine), to make sure her make up stayed the same no matter what.
Afterwards she collected her backpack and lunch and headed off to the bus stop.
The cold air helped calm her nerves slightly. Gwen looked at the trees lining her street and smiled, she really loved fall. The smell of the wood stoves burning, leaves changing from green to yellow and orange, and the Halloween decorations in peoples yards and windows.
As she reached the bus stop Gwen quickly scanned the crowd of kids waiting in line. Cassie of course had bullied her way to the front, Luke standing behind her looking slightly gloomy. Kelly and Kelsey, (twin girls in middle school), stood a few feet behind staring at Cassie with almost idle worship in their eyes. A few elementary kids ran around throwing leaves at each other.
Then her eyes found Indie standing alone at the back of the line looking nervous; and absolutely gorgeous.
