Chapter Seven

"Hi!", Gwen said breathlessly as she approached Indie. "Glad you found the bus stop okay."
Indie's hair was up in a loose braid that fell over her right shoulder. She wore the same black boots as she had on Saturday, jeans and a aqua blue t-shirt with a D20 dice on it that read, "I'm a Nat 20".
"Oh hi! Yeah my dad showed me last night." Indie said, "I'm glad you're here, that girl in the front keeps giving me dirty looks for some reason." She whispered the last part quietly.
Gwen frowned slightly and looked over at Cassie who was indeed throwing Indie a very snotty look. She motioned for Gwen to come join her up front while tapping her foot impatiently. "That's Cassie, friend of mine. She's harmless...well mostly."
Indie giggled and followed Gwen up to where Cassie stood .
Before Gwen could even open her mouth, Cassie began talking very rapidly.
"My whole weekend was a nightmare! First my mom tried to ground me, and the dear Luke here tried to guilt me over the whole dance thing! Exactly why didn't you answer my text messages?!?"
Gwen felt a twinge of guilt. She'd been so preoccupied by...well herself, she hadn't really thought to check her phone.
Indie, Gwen noticed, had gotten a irritated look on her face the longer Cassie talked. She was looking from Luke to Cassie. Gwen turned slightly to look at Luke who was bright red in the face, she supposed that was probably pretty embarrassing for him to be called out like that. Gwen made a note to talk to Cassie about it.
"Whose this?", Cassie asked suddenly, (and frankly, aggressively). "Who are you?" She asked Indie in a tone that suggested she couldn't care less.
Indie looked taken aback but quickly composed herself. "Indie, just moved here. How are you?"
"Oh." Cassie replied in a cold tone.
Thankfully the bus arrived and Cassie turned away losing interest.
The bus doors opened and Cassie swept up the stairs with the air of someone belonging to royalty. She spotted Dave and made a beeline for him without another word to anyone.
As the rest of them loaded onto the bus and found seats, (Gwen and Indie sat together), Gwen had to wonder to herself, when had Cassie got so mean?
