Professor Laramie; is the Marriage Law enforcer, and teacher of Couple Skills 101, Child Care 101, and Life of Love. "Today," she began, "we will all be getting to know our soulmates, okay? Start small, favorites, and so forth. Then delve deeper, when you both agree to it."
"Isla," Draco calls, pulling my gaze away from the Forbidden Forest, "let's tell each other about our families to start. You go first."
"My birth parents are Seraphina Lotus Beckett and Alistair Phoenix Beckett. I have one sibling, my brother, Ronan Ember Beckett. My adoptive parents were Jean and Thomas Granger." I state the facts, nothing more, nothing less.
"My parents are Lucius Malfoy, and Narcissa Black." He winces at his father's name. "Favorite color, book, candy, and animal."
I smile fondly, "Coral and gold, The Dark Prophecy, sugar quills, and cats. You?"
"Silver, anything by the Grimm Brothers, licorice wands, and owls."
"What other house would you like to be in, and why." I challenge.
"Ravenclaw. It's the house that the Sorting Hat originally picked for me, and often I wonder if I would've led a different life."
"Mine is Ravenclaw too actually. When I was younger, it was because I felt I didn't fit in in Gryffindor, but now, it's because I find quiet nerds much more appealing."
Draco laughs at my last statement but quickly turns serious. "Can we talk about the hard stuff now? We know the basics, but I think we both need more than that, especially after the cat..."
"Agreed. You ask first. But only two questions."
He stares solemnly at the floor, "Why'd you forgive me?"
I sigh. "Honestly, I started forgiving you years ago. Besides, the boys were just as mean to you, if not more. It was about the third year when I really started to notice things, small ones, but still, things that made me sad. When there was a loud noise you'd jump, someone yelled you'd wince, someone made a sudden movement, you'd flinch... I wanted to ask if you were alright, but I never did. I did do small things, I almost always cast a muffling charm when Seamus blew something up." I look into his eyes, "Draco, I apologized because you bloody well deserved it. You went through hell, but somehow still managed to save my arse in the process! If that doesn't grant forgiveness, nothing will!"
