Night in the Basement

Sam fell asleep fine but I couldn't stop thinking what would've happened if my tail didn't grab the psycho's wrist or if Sam wasn't there. I got off Sam's chest stirring his slumber. I made sure he stayed asleep and covered him back up after accidentally knocking his blanket to the ground. Then, I left his room.
I went downstairs quietly and into his basement. The basement was a training area for Sam and Rowan. I set up a few dummies and took off my gloves. It's been so long since I used my claws that it felt weird using them for combat.
I spent 2 hours scratching up the dummies with my claws before I decided to try to gain control over my tail. While I knew I could move my tail at will I couldn't grip with it at will. I moved my tail and wrapped it around a dumbbell a few times. Once that was done I tried to grip and to my surprise I managed to succeed. I then proceeded to add weights to 255 lbs, which is 5 lbs heavier than Rowan. I kept adding 5 lbs to the weights until I couldn't lift anymore. It took 2 hours to find out I could lift 500 lbs with my tail.
I heard someone entering the basement and hid quickly. Waited until I saw who it was. Sam's dad came into view and I came out of hiding.
"Aurora, is that you?" he asked.
"Yeah, it is," I said.
"Why are you down here?" he asked.
"Training," I said shrugging.
"Why?" he asked.
"So I don't have to rely on Sam for protection," I said.
"Do you need help?" he asked.
"I'd appreciate it," I said.
"OK, I'll help," he said.
We trained for 3 hours. It was 5 am. Sam's dad taught me how to punch, kick, and dodge in the first hour. In the second hour I used what I learned on the dummies. In the third hour we sparred and I defeated Sam's dad using fists, legs, and tail.
"OK, that's enough," Sam's dad said.
"Why, we still have an hour?" I asked.
"We need to relax," he said.
"OK," I replied.
