ADDISON

'Under loves heavy burden do I sink'

'My only love sprung from my only hate'

I bite my lip as I run my finger over the lines, Paul's voice filling my thoughts as if he were right next to me, face to face like yesterday, confidently reciting the words as if they were his own.

For a guy who says the book is too cliche, his expression certainly didn't show disinterest in the book.

"So this is where you've been hiding" I jumped at the sound and groaned as my back hit the bookshelf "I wasn't hiding, I have a free period" I grumbled looking up at Maya as she grinned at my expression and plopped herself down on a chair whilst I shifted slightly, stretching my legs and resting my back against the bookshelf.

"Don't you have class?" I looked up at her suspiciously as I placed my book down, noticing the distressed look on her face which she was trying to hide but having known her for so long, it didn't take long for me to figure out what she's doing here with me in the library during the first period.

"It's Damien, am I right?"

She groaned dropping her head into her hands which she placed on the table "I know, I know" she sighed defeated as she lifted her face to rest her chin on her hands so that she could look at me and I smiled softly, letting her know that I'm right here for as long as she needs me to be.

"He keeps sending me mixed signals, and I know I said that I'm over it but he's not making it easy" she all but exclaimed and I brought my hands up and lowered them for her to keep her volume down before the librarian kicks us out "sorry" she smiled sheepishly before fishing her phone out of her pocket and hastily opening up an app.

"Just look at these- he said he loves me but he likes someone else too. Who does that?" She groaned shoving her phone into my hands as I stood up from my position "he probably forwarded this to about ten other girls" I scoffed, sitting down next to her as I scrolled through the messages he sent her before something hit me "wait...you unblocked him again?"

She looked extremely sheepish as she chuckled nervously and I sighed placing her phone down on the table, leaning back in my seat as I looked at her "Mai, you know I want nothing but the best for you, this guy is a jerk...you're going to hurt yourself at the rate you're going"

Damien Lane, you would think he's some sort of jock that girls drool over from his attitude but quite on the contrary, he's one of those average guys who spends his days engrossed in gaming sites and thrives on whatever female attention he can manage to get, which explains how he has most of the school's female population's names and numbers saved.

My blood boiled as I observed the crestfallen look on my best friend's face "what if I'm already hurt?" my gaze fell on her trembling hand and I placed my hand over it and squeezed gently "you don't deserve this, the only reason i haven't castrated him yet is because you hold me back every time-" I sigh softly as I twisted around in my seat to face her "the first time is always going to hurt, we can't expect the first time to be happily ever after. Sometimes, we just need to let fate take its course" Maya smiled softly as she looked at me with her eyebrow arched "listen to yourself and follow your advice"

I just laughed softly as I shook my head "what's happening with Damien is important because it's showing you exactly what you don't deserve so the next time, you'll know what you want"

We've had this same conversation countless times, from the time he started messaging her to now, I've hated the guy with a passion. He's one of those guys who views girls as objects or as a status symbol like 'Hey look! this is the third girl I've trapped in a week! SCORE!' and honestly, he deserves to be shoved into a gutter so that he can experience exactly what his damn mind is like.
