~Chapter 17: Smiles and Flutters~

"'He shall never know I love him-" I read softly as my eyes ran over the words and groaned slightly as my phone pinged but I ignored it for now, determined to finish the sentence "and that, not because he's handsome, but because he's more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same" I finished with a gentle smile playing on my lips.

How romantic...Emily Bronte, you're a damn genius.

I sighed, closing my book as I picked up my phone and arched an eyebrow as my phone read that I have a message from Paul. I placed my thumb on the home button and the phone unlocked so that I could view the message.

'From Paul: you were amazing tonight. Think I can become your drop to the diner from now? I would love to hear you sing again. Goodnight beautiful'

My eyes widened as my cheeks burned and I couldn't help but read the message a few times and involuntarily, a huge grin spread across my face and I bit my lip, rolling over onto my stomach as my fingers hovered above the keyboard.

What should I say?

'To Paul: good evening, thank you so much. You don't need to trouble yourself-'

I frowned as I pursed my lips and glared at the message I had typed so far, this sounds so formal...awkward much Addison?

"Okay champ, it's just a message. You can do this" I mumbled to myself as I deleted the message and started all over again. I'm seventeen years old, he's also a teenage guy like me so there's no reason for me to be so awkward because I have guy friends.

I huffed in frustration before concentrating on sending him a message, a proper one.

'To Paul: thank you ^_^ I think I could do with a chauffeur buuuut he should be able to drop me home after. What did you think of the drink? I was wondering if you would like it or not...anyways, goodnight hands-'

My fingers stopped and I shook my head as I deleted the last part and just put his name, maybe he jut said that because my name is too long to type out...it would be weird if I sent that to him.

That would be classed as flirting...are we?

I shook my head and pressed the send button as my hands shook nervously while I analyzed the message again and cringed. Did I just call him a chauffeur? Are there too many 'u's' in that but? Should I have sent the smiley face? Why did I bring the drink up?

Damn...he's going to think I'm a freak.

I groaned as I rolled my eyes at my stupidity and jumped in surprise as my phone went off.

'From Paul: This chauffeur is always at your service, my fair lady. As for the drink, it was a little sweet but I still liked it, I'd say I'm developing a sweet tooth'

I laughed as quietly as I could as I read the message and took note of the thinking face emoji he added at the end of the message. I gnawed on my lip as I thought of what to reply because I knew he left the option to carry on the conversation and for some reason, I didn't want to stop just yet.

"Addie-" I instinctively shoved my phone under my pillow as I sat up looking at my mother who was watching me with an arched eyebrow "you're still up?" she questioned looking at the clock on my wall and my mouth opened and closed as I tried to think of something to say.

Wait...why am I hiding my phone?

I pulled my phone out and held it up along with the book "I was reading and then...Paul messaged. You know Paul, right? He's from Sam's-" I started rambling and my mother chuckled, holding her hand up to stop me "trust me, I know very well who Paul is. I saw your light on and decided to remind you that we're going to Charlie's tomorrow" I nodded, smiling as I haven't seen grandpa Charlie in weeks "goodnight" my mother smiled before closing the door.
