Part Four
The doorbell rang, sounding throughout the house and startling me awake. Glaring at the clock beside me, I saw that it was one pm. At home that would have been ten pm the previous day. Jeez.
I scampered down the stairs in my pyjama shorts and strap top with my arms crossed over my chest. When I opened the door, Luke stood there.
“Hey,” Luke said, giving me a once-over. I had no idea how my hair and face looked right then. Luckily, I had pretty good bed hair.
“Hi,” I said through a yawn. “Sorry, I just woke up. Not use to the time difference yet.”
He smiled his shy smile again. “Okay, well, erm, do you want me to come back later?”
“No no, come in. I’ll just go chuck some clothes on.” Once he was inside the house, I pushed the door shut behind him and ran upstairs.
“Feel free to look around!” I shouted down the stairs whilst exchanging my strap top for a red halter-neck. I quickly stepped into my Miss Selfridge shorts and combed my hair down with my fingers. Luckily, my face didn’t need make-up.
Minutes later, I returned to join Luke, who I found in the lounge.
“Sweet room,” he said, admiring the décor.
I put my hand on my hip and admired it with him. “Yeah. I’ll have to throw a party once I know enough people.”
He nodded in agreement and turned to me. “So what do you wanna do?”
“You could show me the neighbourhood,” I suggested.
“Okay. Ready to start the tour then, my lady?” he asked, popping out his arm so that I could loop mine through it.
I clutched onto his arm and led him back out of the front door. I decided to leave Summer asleep so that she wouldn’t be grumpy when she woke. God only knows how much that girl needs her sleep to refrain her from striking out at someone.
“So your immediate neighbours are the Jackson’s. They have a son in our, sorry my year, and a daughter who’s twelve. Then it’s the Saldo’s who are new parents. Don’t go near their kid or they’ll bite like a bitch with a new pup. Then it’s my house, the Bays,” he beamed.
“Really?! I had no idea!” I said, sarcasm tainting my tone. “So your last name is Bays?”
He nodded. “Yeah. What’s yours?”
“Daniels,” I replied.
“Oh that’s great,” Luke grinned.
I just looked at him, confused, which in turn prompted him to say: “Our friend Daniel is over all the time. It’s bound to get confusing.”
“So you reckon I’m gonna be over a lot, huh?” I teased.
He opened his mouth to talk and stuttered, floundering for a reply.
“Dude, calm it. I want to be over a lot. You’re, like, the only friends I have here. Plus, you guys are fun.”
“You haven’t seen anything yet,” he mocked, quoting my words from the previous day. I rolled my eyes again- something I tended to be doing a lot around the Bay boys.
“Now to continue our tour…” Luke trailed off, steering us round a corner just past his house.
It was an alley with a grey, concrete wall that stretched all the way to the park in the distance. An old sofa rested against this wall.
I slipped my arm out of Luke’s, ran to the sofa and pounced onto it, allowing my feet to bounce off it before landing on the ground again.
Luke laughed and shook his head. “You’re crazy.”
“I warned you.”
“That you did,” he said, just before copying my bounce and landing right beside me.
“You’re not too sane yourself,” I pointed out. He shrugged with that cute smile on his face once again. He was quickly coming out of his shell and the more I saw of the real Luke, the closer I wanted to be to him.
“This is the alley where we shoot most of our videos,” he told me, gesturing to the great concrete wall.
“Your very own concrete jungle,” I teased, jabbing him in the ribs. “So what are these videos?”
“YouTube and shizz. We have dare Sunday’s and we record then upload them.”
“I’m so joining in on one of those Sunday’s.”
He clicked his tongue. “But are you man enough?”
I feigned offense by gasping dramatically. “How could you doubt me with all these muscles?” I questioned, flexing my muscles. Surprisingly, my biceps were pretty solid. He scoffed anyway and linked arms with me again.
“Okay, you can join in. But you might not be able to handle it.”
“Whatever you weaklings can handle, I can handle,” I claimed confidently. It was most likely true- I had quite a strong stomach and a lot of will power.
He raised an eyebrow questioningly but just continued guiding me through the alley.
“So who’s Daniel?”
“A mate,” he said in his heavy Australian accent. “He’s crazy, maybe even more than you, and does the dare Sunday’s with us. He’s probably at my house right now.”
We reached the edge of the park, which was pretty much a huge stretch of grass with swings and a roundabout. It was empty except for a few small kids with their parents and a boy in a black SnapBack.
Please comment and tell me your opinions! If any of you want specifics to happen, I might be able to squeeze them in :D Would be great to hear from at least one of you :) <3
