Part Six
“What film are we watching?” Summer asked, walking into the room. Yep, she definitely looked like a model. Daniel came in, practically drooling, behind her.
“I was thinking Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street,” Jay said, holding the DVD up.
“I’m good with that. But Summer’s slightly squeamish,” I told them, making Summer narrow her eyes at me. I held my hands up defensively. “You know it’s true.”
She sighed. “Yeah.”
Daniel slung his arm over her shoulders. “Don’t worry, I’ll protect you from the scary barber.”
She giggled and lead him over to the floor, where they sat against the couch by Beau and Luke’s feet.
“Sweeney Todd it is then!” Jay said, chucking the DVD to Daniel who was positioned in front of the Bluray player. He caught it and popped it in, then returned to his position next to Summer. She cuddled up next to him as soon as Johnny Depp appeared in grim colours on the screen. I could tell that she was just using the excuse to get closer to Daniel.
“Look at them,” I whispered to Jay. He unglued his eyes from the screen and looked at them, quirking an eyebrow. He opened his mouth- most likely to make a comment- so I elbowed him in the ribs, a bit too hard.
“Ow!” he hissed at me.
“Whoops. Sorry,” I whispered back, rubbing it with my hand. I was instantly forgiven when I relaxed against his body.
“Comfy?” he asked.
“Mhm,” I mumbled, turning my attention back to the film. It had gotten to the point where he was singing to his knives. Many may find the film insanely sick, but I found a dark pleasure and humour from it. Don’t worry- I’m not Sweeney Todd reincarnated as a girl.
Summer shrieked several time whilst Mr. Todd slit the throats, releasing the blood from its skin cage. Daniel comforted her- always the gentleman, pftt.
It was a quiet part of the film when Beau decided to scare the hell out of Daniel. He slowly loomed over him from behind and then, just as Sweeney had his knife poised over Judge Turpin’s neck, he grabbed his throat.
Daniel screamed louder and in a way more girly way than Summer had throughout the whole film. We all burst into fits of laughter.
“You little fuck!” Daniel cursed, turning to slap Beau in the face. He missed and slapped the couch instead, making us all laugh even more. Even Summer was giggling at his reaction.
“Sh!” I hushed through my laughter, trying to be serious. “Watch the film!”
Everyone stopped laughing, but was still coughing to hide it.
Eventually, the room was quiet again, and we were silent for the remainder of the film. Once it was finished, I stretched out- untangling myself from Jay- and got to my feet.
“That was one creepy film,” Summer said, looking horrified as she continued to watch the blood trickle from Sweeney Todd’s throat on to the woman.
“Babe, don’t worry, Todd was in England, not Australia,” I said, trying to calm her. She shook her head and smiled up at me.
“Yeah,” she shrugged, stretching her arms. Her top lifted slightly and Daniel’s eyes instantly glued to her mid section. Such a boy.
“Time?” I asked Jay.
“Three fifty five.”
“You guys want to stay for dinner again?” Luke asked, looking from me to Summer.
“I think we should cook for you guys,” I stated. “Beau and Jay still haven’t seen our place,” I told Luke.
He nodded. “How about it guys?”
“I’m up for that,” Beau said, slapping his knees and rising to sling his arm around my shoulder.
I looked at his curiously and couldn’t help but grin when I saw his glinting brown irises. I realised then that all the boys had such similar eyes.
“Let’s go then, sluts!” Beau shouted, dragging me towards the front door by the shoulder. I followed and beckoned the others with my head.
Nina was on her wake up the drive when we all passed her.
“We’re going to the girl’s house for dinner, ma. See you later,” Beau said, giving her a quick kiss on the head.
“That’s excellent. I’m exhausted and didn’t want to cook for all you greedy boys anyway.” She winked at me before scuttling to the door and disappearing inside.
“Bye, Nina!” Summer shouted over hers and Daniel’s shoulder- they were once again linked together.
When we reached my house, I opened the door with my cold, silver key and swung the door open. “Welcome to the Ace house.”
Summer and I had come up with the name ‘Ace’ for the house because both my first name and her last name- Lacer- had the word in them. Plus, the house was quite the top house on the street, from what I’d seen.
I lead them all straight to the kitchen, my body still tucked under Beau’s arm, and turned round. “What do you want for dinner?”
“What’s on offer?” Jay asked, already snooping in the large pantry.
“Spaghetti bolognaise, jacket potatoes, hot dogs, pancakes or burgers,” I told them, slipping out of Beau’s hold to grab six glasses.
“Pancakes!” Jay shouted, emerging from the pantry in a bound.
“Everyone else okay with that?” Summer asked, also slipping out of Daniel’s hold.
Everyone either muttered their agreement or nodded, so I retrieve the whisk, flour, eggs, milk, two frying pans, butter and a spoon.
“Did you get lemon yesterday?” I asked Summer whilst she poured everyone their preferred drink.
She nodded and gestured to the fridge door that was hanging open.
I started on the huge order of pancakes and ordered everyone to sit down and allow Summer and me to cook with space.
Once all the boys had consumed over five pancakes each- such pigs considering they were really thick- I quickly shovelled down two myself and began cleaning up.
As I was washing one of the pans, a hand slipped down my arm and rested on top of my own hand.
“Want some help?” Beau asked in my ear. It tickled, so I scratched it and accidentally flicked soapy water all over his face.
“Whoops,” I giggled.
The next moment, water was being thrown at me from Beau’s cupped hands. It took a few minutes for our mini water fight to calm down, but once it had, I looked at the boys and saw them bent over in fits of laughter.
“What’s so funny?” I asked, propping my hand on my hip.
Jay pointed to my face, still speechless from his laughter.
Beau held up a spoon in front of me to reveal a small, bubble goatee that decorated my chin. How wonderful.
